003 | video; Thanksgiving

Hey, I'm guessing a lot of you come from a place that has some kind of holiday like Thanksgiving, or at least something like it.

Where I'm from, we just... gathered together on this day, made a veritable feast from what little we had and spent the rest of the night eating, drinking and making merry.

I like to think it's a good time to reflect on what ( Read more... )

[While not exactly the same as the American version of Thanksgiving, Japan does have their own version of the day, based in part on a harvest festival, commemorating labor and production and giving thanks.]

I'm thankful for Mou Hitori no Boku, my family and friends, even though they're still back home and what ever friends I will make here.

[And also the fact that he's currently not a disembodied soul stuck who knows where, but we won't mention that.]

Hey, that's the spirit.

[Having once been an angel, that comes with it certain perks... like knowledge of languages of earth, because one does not become a messenger of God and not know how to communicate with man.

...But we won't mention that, either.]

So you're from... Japan, I take it? I think I recognized a few words there.

[Smiles and laughs. Hey, someone has to the optimist around here apparently.]

Yes, I am. Domino City, actually. I'm Yuugi, Yuugi Mutou.

I'm Cas.

[He's... never heard of that place, though. And that is one hell of a name, so he'll just have to come up with some kinda nickname. One that is sure to confuse the hell out of everyone.]

Hey, that's quite a mouthful. Mind if I call you 'Yuu'?

A feast, huh.

[Sounds like the kind of thing Sniper would have liked.]

...guess I'm pretty thankful to be alive.

You and me both, friend.

...So I take it you're part of the 'very bad end' club?

Maybe. The last thing I remember could have been... but I can't be sure.

[The place had been pretty much falling apart around their ears, though, so...]

...oh yeah. Pretty glad to have all my memories back, too.

I imagine having a chronic case of amnesia would get kinda old after a while.

[Cas gives a shrug that shows itself more in his face than in his shoulders.]

...That's not to say that the Mist doesn't get old either, but it is what it is.

Yeah, although I think there's a few ones like it in other cultures.

[And don't mind his rambling ways, Bernkastel... generally, he's just high.]

What about you?

Not much of a fan of holidays? Figured you'd at least get a day off from school... that's something to look forward to, right?

[Hey, she looks young enough to belong in school, okay.]

Hmm, I'm afraid I am not familiar at all with this holiday. [His smile turns a bit tight.] And while this place so far seems better, at least, than the place I recently came from... well, being separated from my friends does not inspire very much thankfulness in me. Perhaps that comes with time.

Probably a shift in perspective that's... a bit too soon for some, sure.

And you know what? It's okay to not have anything to be grateful for. Sometimes life just sucks like that.

[Have the most passive-aggressively cheerful smile and happy sing-song.] Well, I am very glad to hear that. Because I'm afraid it's amazing how ungrateful I am feeling right now, but I would really hate to interfere with other people's customs. That would be rather rude.

[Cas' smile falters at that, because really... there are barbs enough in that smile to repel even his nearly unflappable good mood.]

...Yeah, couldn't have that, could we?

So uh, what's eating you, if you don't mind my asking?

["stunning mosaic"?

Bah. Des was never one for purple prose yakkity yak, but he's not about to jab at the guy. It looks like he means well enough]

Ehhh... I guess I'm thankful for British assholes not being here? Thankful for not being hooked up to high-tech La-Z-Boys. Thankful for walls that don't have crazy crap scrawled all over them.

In short, actually thankful to be back in Anatole, somehow. Huh.

[ HE CAN FEEL YOUR JUDGMENTAL STARES FROM HERE, DES. But yeah, don't mind his rambling. That's probably the drugs talking :| ]

...And here I thought my life was bad. My sympathies.

I'm Cas, by the way.

Screw it, man. No worries. Everyone's got their problems, and they're all shitty.

[welp, seems friendly enough]

Desmond! Des, whatever. Good t'meet you.

Nice to meet you, Des.

[Friendly? Absolutely. And thanks to the Mist, he sometimes comes across as that oddly likeable guy at the bar who seems to be bros with everyone. Not that he knows it, yet.]

So this place must be a vacation compared to home. What's your story?
