So.  Just saw the trailer for this year's Doctor Who special: "The Doctor, the Widow, and the Wardrobe."  (link includes the mini-scene for the charity auction, which was hilarious, and now I'm wondering why it's the straight showrunner who plays up the Doctor's attractiveness)

I want very very much for it to be a fine and wonderful ripoff of Narnia.

I hope so too - I like to think they'd make sure of it, just because those books have been and in many cases remain very important to people. Even though I only read the first one, it still resonates with me. (Mr. Tumnus. Oh, Mr. Tumnus. What?)

Actually I've been told - though I don't know how much evidence there is for this - that in the last year and a half of his life, when he was living in a college flat at Merton St, Tolkien watched Doctor Who on the caretaker's set (he didn't own a TV) and enjoyed it very much.

And I think Lewis would have loved Who.

If that's true, I love it! I like the idea of this elderly professor visiting the caretaker so he could watch Doctor Who.

I truly hope it will be good, though I don't know if I trust Moffat enough to handle it well. I'm trying not to judge it too much before hand, though, as I do want to enjoy it.

Yeah, I'm hoping it helps that Moffat seems reasonably respectful of religious people/ideas, and that Narnia is so well-loved by a lot of Doctor Who's fanbase (and people in general!).

Yes, I feel exactly the same way. Well, I do have a fair degree of trust in Moffat, but I'm not sure I trust him with Narnia specifically. Though if he loves it enough to want to do it at all, I'm hoping he loves it for enough of the right reasons not to want to ruin it.
