Five Things for a Wet Sunday Morning

Exercise: A friend of mine who is a dedicated runner says that she runs in the rain because she has to run, and that rain shouldn't stop me from getting out to run, either. We won't, after all, melt. This last point is most assuredly true. It does not, however, make a compelling argument for me to don my workout clothes and go get drenched. I need ( Read more... )

There's a new gym in Ballard that I've been looking at. It's cheap and it has more-or-less all the things I want. Thinking, thinking, thinking.

Fitness 19? I was going to suggest it. I have no knowledge of it other than walking past it occasionally, but it looks nice.

Yep. I've already been in there once. It's not bad at all. I just need to, you know, do something about it. :-)

Yeah, I do the "can I not spend any money" game, too. it's both useful, and mentally damaging, which is the problem - if it was all bad, we could stop ourselves from doing it, but it's NOT all bad, and...

argh.

And I can tell you that you do NOT want to get a new cat at least before mid-January, because you'll want to be home the entire time, to ensure a proper and peaceful melding. So that's a worry tabled for a bit. :-)

Yeah, that's one of the reasons I've been hesitant about bringing in a new kitty--the upcoming travel. I really do want to be here to play referee and peace-keeper should such introductions take place.

My flock have been attending a new little gym in Ballard called Fitness 19. We've been really happy with it so far. It's not an upscale, bells-n-whistles establishment, but rather the opposite- stripped down to the basics and with concomitant pricing- we're paying $12/month, and for the difference between that and the more frou-frou clubs, I can easily forego showering immediately after my workout in favour of doing so at home. They do have personal trainers available for those so inclined, but I have no experience with them other than that damashita really likes the one with whom she works.

But, yes, all in all, it's a clean, well lighted place (sans Hemingway's Pernod), and where I've been doing my running. If you're interested, I can see about picking up a week's pass for you.

Oh- location might help. I can't recall if you're bound by the vagaries of Metro or not. It's on 24th in Ballard just a block north of Market.

That's the place I've been looking at, actually. :-) The price is certainly right. I've already done a free session there, which gave me a chance to inspect the facility, and the stripped-down service is really just fine by me. Thinking, thinking, thinking....

I hated running in the rain, and I suck at going to the gym. I stopped buying gym memberships because I would buy them, and then not go anyway. Having a dog that must be walked is a Good Thing for us because, well, the dog must be walked. Not an option for you, I know. However, I highly recommend free weights, they are one of the few things that have worked for me and they are good exercise. And, I can do them at home ( ... )

Thanks for the tips! As it happens, I'm halfway there already. I've been doing Weight Watchers since January. I've lost nearly 50 pounds, so I'm all over the online apps and not eating processed foods. As it happens, I do go to meetings, and I've had nothing but excellent experiences there--but everyone's experience is different. If it's working for you, that's all that matters. It's certainly been working for me.

A couple of people have mentioned eating at Whole Foods, but I find their pricing so over-the-top that I just can't make myself do it. I do most of my eating at home and I keep it pretty simple. And yeah, at Safeway, I buy mostly store brands; it's the most economical choice--that and Trader Joe's. And lots of couponing. I'm picky about what I clip and feel silly doing it, but it does help.

The first time I let my husband do his coupon clipping thing, we saved $36 on $200+ of stuff at Safeway...NOT taking into account their club card prices. I never again snickered at coupon clipping. It's a smart thing, not a silly thing.
