Thanks to everyone who shared concern and sympathy with my last post. Update: Seems that the lease should be sortable as it only costs 31 euro. Not quite 'Phew!' though as there could still be wrinkles over the position of the executor as 'owner' under the legislation. We got the solicitor's prelim report on the house we want yesterday. Seems they slipped it into the market with a short lease so it is currently unmortgageable. GAH! Good news: the council own the lease and are obliged by law to sell the lease to the owner if he asks. Bad news: this is a probate sale and there might be questions whether the ( Read more... )

Got our last - probably - Xmas card this week. Our decorations are all down and stored away which makes the house look about three times as big. Yay! Oddly though we seem to be in something of a minority. The civic lights are still up and still ON! We had an estate agent out to value the house yesterday and so had a total blitz on tidying up the HEAPOFSTUFF that the house was full of and then cleaning where the HEAPSOFSTUFF used to be. Is knackered. The plus is that the house may be worth slightly more than we thought. Will have to get someone else out to see for comparison. Right now though ( Read more... )
