Where have I been?

Busy is where.
We went to Dublin with DD so that
1 - DD could attend the Dublin Zoo Camp of which I cannot speak highly enough. It were great!
2 - We could meet up with daftnewt who began his serpentine progress round Europe with a stop in Dublin. Brave soul. The synergistic combo of jet lag, Irish weather and our two kids must have been interestingWhile ( Read more... )

Sounds like fun! I really wish we had an IKEA nearby, but I think the closest is an 8 hour drive away.

It is slightly odd that we have two on the island of Ireland. The one in Belfast should have had to cover us down here in the South based on their usual population ratios. It's only about 6 hours drive though. Before that opened people rented vans to drive to the UK to get IKEA kitchens and bookshelves.

otoh friends of ours say they never have marital fights quite as vicious as the ones they have in IKEA so perhaps best not go.

Welcome back! Hugs Sammywol. Also - I think Dublin Zoo is one of my favourite places, even though it is a long time since I was there. We once took a day trip from here, by sea, especially to take a small D-d there!

Sorry you're not feeling brilliant.

I have never been to IKEA - one day I really, really, must go to one - it always sounds such fun when people on my FL say they've been. Although goodness knows what I'd do with any more furniture... buy a spare house?

I am glad that your house-buying is proceeding - and that you stuck your tongue out, at least metaphorically, at Pink House Estate Agent.

Dublin Zoo is nothing like it used to be. It is terrific! They have planted up all the spaces between areas so you have no real line of sight across the water anymore. The planting is lush and gorgeous and a gardener's dream and the animals look disgustingly healthy and pleased with themselves.

We have an Ikea about a 15 minute drive from our home.

I visit it fairly often, as it is both kid and family friendly.

About once a month I go there simply to drop the Girl-O off in the supervised play area (I guess you would call it a creche) while I walk over about 30 feet to the couches in the main lobby and read my book.

After our mutual hour of 'play' time, we'll go upstairs to the Ikea restaurant (I'll usually have the salmon plate, the Girl-O fish and chips) and after that we'll wander through the store and pick up the one thing I may have selected earlier (ie. last Thursday I bought a new pillow!).

What?! No meatballs! And yeah I can see that being a favourite stop if it was a wee bit closer but even when we are in Dublin it is the guts of an hour's drive away in the middle of, well, bandit country. Wish we had a free play zone like that here though. Actually Cork is well endowed with indoor softplays - must be the weather - but they all fall down rather thoroughly on the 'free' aspect.

The Girl-O loves being in the play area so much, that after her time is up from her hour of free baby sitting I've been tempted to put a mustache on my her as a disguise, and re-enter her into the play area under a pseudonym.
