first of all WOW! That post on sleeping babies has obviously struck several chords with people. Never have i garnered such a response. Heck there's comment threads going on! Baby Boy went to sleep like, well, like a proverbial baby (which as the comment threads demonstrate is nothing like flesh and blood babies) tonight after fussing and fussing ( Read more... )

aberdeen and I happened to catch the cheetah run in action. It's actually fairly cool, in the sense of watching big cats run and tear dead rabbits apart.

I recognise the problem with nocturnal big cats - perhaps they should just have a big finger on a stick to poke them with?

Actually my abiding memory of Irish animal parks is of my two visits to Dublin Zoo - one in the mid eighties one in the mid nineties, where there seemed to be hoardes of chidren in their best clothes (both visits being Sundays) being lifted over the barriers so that they could get close enough to the actual wire between people and animals to feed the animals....I guess that would have kept the cheetahs more active!

Shudders! I haven't been to Dublin Zoo since, oOo, 1989? and have stayed away largely due to that phenomenon. I gather it is a very different place these days, with more money and more land and better habitats. We are going to try again this summer with DD so will let you know. Fota is a different kettle of cats though. Very New Zoo in layout and outlook. People are still as ignorant as fuck with the animals but a lot of the animals are free range and either placid (Guanaco, Kangaroos), nippy (Mara and Ringtail Lemurs), or nails (ie. the Pelicans and the Capybara - nothing messes with them). No wombats though worse luck. What is that on your icon? I don't think I have seen a striped wombat before so am puzzled.

We have a wee wildlife park - not as new as yours - it was opened in 1965 I think - http://www.gov.im/wildlife/world/ which has a fair collection of lynx. But we don't have any wombats either.

This is a marbled polecat - he was on a meme sometime, and I just loved the expression.

Hooray! I'm glad that Baby Boy slept last night, and that you got to go to the park. That does sound like fun. :)

Good as gold tonight too. Fingers crossed it is a pattern and not happenstance.
