On Solstice. Fabulous.

red & green leaf lettuce
beets with tops
broccoli
pie cherries
organic fair trade coffee
organic vegan muffins (carrots, apples, blueberry, honey, and spices)

This slaw is not sweet and has some complex flavor.

1/2 head cabbage, finely chopped
1 carrot, grated
2 green onions, finely chopped
1 or 2 celery tops, finely chopped
2 tbsp apple cider vinegar
1/4 cup mayonnaise
1 tbsp sour cream
black pepper, coarse ground
salt to taste

combine all ingredients thoroughly. chill for at least 1 hour.

Enjoy.

I went to Sam's Club with a friend and stocked up on bulk items like TP, canned goods, and frozen endamame. Now to rearrange storage to find a place for everything.

Little maples are springing up everywhere. While I was planting the cauliflower, I noticed that even the rocky clay soil has many earthworms. The compost has done its job. Robin redbreast was happily foraging away in the turned earth.

For those of you actually interested in my vegetable adventures, the brussel sprouts were my experimental crop this year. After a disapoointing season, I banked them with some mulch since they were still green even after the frost/ice that browned everything in the garden. I used the last of my root vegetables this morning - onion, carrot and potato - so now I'm on store bought produce for the rest of the winter. My dried thyme is also gone although I may venture out to see if the herbs are still there under the snow. I didn't put up the cold frame box, but I did compost and mulch so I might get lucky.
