veggie highs and lows

I used the last of my root vegetables this morning - onion, carrot and potato - so now I'm on store bought produce for the rest of the winter. My dried thyme is also gone although I may venture out to see if the herbs are still there under the snow. I didn't put up the cold frame box, but I did compost and mulch so I might get lucky. I also have one last butternut squash which I am going to cook up tonight with some orgasmic maple syrup. I've been experimenting with making my own bread/rolls but let's face it: betty crocker I ain't. It's just easier to buy a small loaf of whole grain from Paneras. Aside from some killer whole wheat pizza crust, the time and effort isn't worth it. Right now I have some veggie gumbo simmering on the stove.

I've been drinking caffeine this week mainly because yoga just doesn't pick me up like the caffeine does when I'm feeling ill. I'm getting over it but still have trouble sleeping even with the humidifier going. Zowie! Maybe the caffeine is causing my sleeping problems rather than the general discomfort from the dry throat and post-nasal drip? Goddess, I can be dumb sometimes. I suppose I'm in for a major caffeine withdrawal headache tomorrow.

Today, after I sort my mail and pay the bills, I'm headed to the nature preserve for a walk before the icy sleet hits our area.

edit: Nope, the freezing rain wilted everything. Oh well.

edit2: I had forgotten the herbs sandwiched between the filters on the box fan! More thyme! basil! oregano! mint!
