Shou's POV

~~

Before completely leaving the castle, Nao and Reita stop at the stables.

"You might like to walk, but we've been too many places not to have brought horses."

While we wait outside, Ruki stands next to me.

"So, what did you forget?"

At my look of confusion, Hiroto adds "They said you had to come back for something. What was it?"

Oh, that.

"A mirror" I answer, wondering what they'd say if they knew what it really was.

"You're kidding, right?  You came back to this creepy-ass place to get a mirror? I would've just bought a new one."

"It's not just any mirror, Ruki.  It has special meaning to Shou." Kai says, placing a hand on my shoulder.

"What? Like it's got his best friend in it or something?"

And I almost drop my bag.

"Easy, Shou" Kai says, taking the bag from me.

"Why would you say that?" I manage to squeak out.

"Wait a minute.  You mean it really does? Shit. That was just a guess."

"But that still doesn't explain why you'd guess that.  Out of everything else you could've said."

Ruki shrugs "I dunno.  It's just the first thing that popped into my head."

"Maybe it's because you use magic?" Hiroto says, looking at my bag curiously.

Kai notices too.

"When we get home, you can see." He tells the shorter man.

When the other three rejoin us, Kai looks at Aoi in surprise.

"Don't tell me.  You bought those?" he says, pointing to the animals his brother is leading.

"Don't you think it'll help with our search? We'll be able to cover more ground faster this way."

I wonder how I'm gonna tell them that I've never ridden before.

I won't have a clue what to do.

"This one's yours," Aoi says patting one of the horses. "She's as gentle as a kitten, so don't worry about falling off or anything."

Oh great, something else to worry about.

Even if he says I shouldn't.

Aoi helps me up on the beast.

Giving me a smile of encouragment.

I try to smile back, but I'm afraid it looks more like a grimace.

Especially when he chuckles.

I watch the others take their seats.

And even Hiroto looks at ease sitting in his saddle.

"It's pretty easy, really," he says, catching me watching him.

"Can I ask you something?" I say, as we move slowly along the road.

"Sure" Hiroto answers.

"Nao said that Ruki's your fairy god person, right?"

He nods.

"So why is he with the prince? In all the stories I've ever heard, they're supposed to take care of YOU."

"That's the funny thing. I never wanted a prince. I never wanted to live in a castle or any of that stuff. I just wanted someone nice to care about me."

I look ahead to where Nao's riding with Aoi and Reita.

The three are smiling, joking around.

"I'd say you got it."

He smiles back at me, as Ruki and Kai ride up beside us.

"Those two have always brought out the best in Aoi" Kai says "Even when he was trying to beat Reita."

Ruki snorts "As if"

"You wanna know how we met, don't you?" Kai smiles at me.

"I'm kinda curious about that too" Ruki leans a bit forward, catching Kai's eye.

"And also why Nao asked if you were 'coming out of hiding'. It's kinda suspicious, if you ask me."

"I suppose it is.  But to answer one, I'll be answering both."

Kai shifts in the saddle, getting more comfortable.

"Aoi and I grew up in a castle. Pretty far from here. The first time we met, Reita's father brought him along when he was visiting our king. Of course, Nao was with him. That's back when they were just friends. Before Nao decided to be Reita's guard and protector."

He smiles at Ruki.

"Even back then, Reita didn't need a protector. At least not physically.  But you have to understand that there are people that'll try to take advantage of royalty.  Especially of someone as kind and compassionate as Reita is.  That's where Nao comes in.  He's pretty good at keeping those kinds of people away."

"You grew up in a castle? But you weren't servants, were you? Your clothes are too fancy" I say, fingering the material of the shirt he loaned me.

Kai nods "Actually, the king was our uncle."

That explains a few things, actually.

Ruki looks thoughtful for a moment.

"So why are you hiding?"

"There was an accident.  One of our cousins was killed in a fire. He was heir to the throne."

"That's awful" Hiroto looks about to cry.

"But that doesn't explain why you thought you needed to go into hiding." Ruki adds.  "They tried to blame you, didn't they?"

Kai nods, "His younger brother did.  He said he saw Aoi and me running out of the barn right before the fire started."

"But you didn't.."

"No. We hadn't been anywhere near the barn that day. I hate to say it, but I think he was the one that started the fire.  You see, he wanted to be king.  He was also jealous of us. No one really liked him. And the rumor was that the king would've named Aoi or me as heir before him."

"So, he got rid of all his obstacles at once" Ruki almost growled. "That's low.  Really low."

We're all silent until we reach the house.

"Who's hungry?" Kai asks after helping me off the horse.

"Still trying to fatten everybody up, I see" Reita grins.

"Wanna help with the horses?" Aoi asks me.

"It's one way to get used to them," Nao adds.

Hiroto nods at me, as he passes, following Aoi around the house.

I stop, surprised by the sight af a rather large barn.

Nao smiles "Looks like you guys are pretty self-sufficiant."

"We try.  The fewer times one of us needs to go for supplies the better."

Reita snorts "I know you. You just make Kai do it all the time."

Aoi shows me where to put oats and hay for the horses.

As well as where the bucket for water is.

I listen to the other's easy banter as they brush down the horses.

Filling up everything so the animals can have dinner, too.

"I see you're still allergic to everything" Aoi teases Reita.

"Not everything. Just pollen, dust, bad cologne, perfume.." Reita drifts off as they both laugh.

"Is that why you where that over your nose?" I surprise myself by asking.

"Yeah. That's why I started, at least.  Truthfully, I don't know if I'm still allergic to all that stuff. It's been a long time since I've gone out without wearing it."

"He sneezes like a girl" Aoi says, winking at me.

I can't help laughing along with him.

"I'm sorry.  I shouldn't laugh."

Reita waves it off.

"Don't be. Tell me," he says turning fully to Aoi "How does one sneeze like a man?"

We all start laughing again as Aoi tries to explain.

Hiroto follows me into the house.

Sticking close.

I know he's still curious about the mirror.

I find it in the living room, where Kai had set it on a chair.

Hiroto sits on the couch, Ruki stopping next to it.

I carefully take the mirror out, unwrapping it.

"Saga?"

"Hey Shou. What's going on?"

"I've got a couple more people to introduce you to," I tell him, turning the mirror around.

"Hi, I'm Hiroto"

"Hi," Saga answers back. "You're a cute little thing, aren't you?"

Hiroto turns an adorable shade of red.

Ruki, chuckling steps around the couch.

Sitting down where Saga can see him.

"I'm Ruki.  How'd you get in there, anyway?"

"Well, I wasn't originally in this one.  Shou moved me to it with a spell. The other one was much bigger."

Ruki nods "I kinda expected that. Not that Shou moved you. But that your mirror was bigger. So, what happened?"

"My friend Tora and I were traveling around when we found what we thought was an abandoned house.  It wasn't.  Anyway, the owner came home and wasn't too happy to find us there. He..a..tried to get us to agree to something that pissed Tora off.  Anyway, the next thing I knew I was stuck in that mirror."

"What about your friend?" Reita asks from the doorway.

"I don't know."

"Saga, this is Prince Reita." I introduce them as Reita comes and sit's next to Ruki.

"I'm Nao" the other man says, also sitting where Saga can see him.

"So, this was what got you two back into the game, huh?" Reita says looking at Aoi.

"How could we not? I mean, this is big."

"Yeah. Big. And completely wrong. Want more help?"

"I was hoping you'd offer" Aoi smiles at him.

"Have you remembered anything else?" I ask, turning the mirror so I can see Saga.

"Not really. I wish I could remember the name of one of the places we stayed at."

"Can you describe any of them?" Aoi asks from over my shoulder.

"I can try."

"Dinner's ready," Kai interrupts from the kitchen.

~~

A/N: OK..so did I manage to clear up all the mysteries?  Like how Aoi & Kai know Reita & Nao..why the first two were 'in hiding', and why they have nice clothes.
Which leaves me with Shou's Dream....*cackles evilly*
That one's gonna get even more interesting.
I'm also wondering when it'd be a good time to bring Miyavi in on this.

So that means the dwarfs are:
Happy=Kai
Grumpy=Aoi
Bashful=Hiroto
Dopey=Ruki
Sleepy=Saga
Sneezy=Reita (thanks fuji for the idea/explanation^^)
Doc=Nao
