Portland and Salem were full of hugs, smiles, friends, and comfort all this weekend.  Leaving Seattle was very rough on me this time, in spite of the fact that I won't be gone long.  housecerulia, mlerules, greektoomey were the best of all possible faces to see over and over in Portland, and my diamond-dear cohorts stealthcello,

Stop at Navarro Vineyards and sample some of their amazing grape juice, made with gewurtz and pinot noir grapes. If you see the owners, tell them their ex-niece Rose says hello. (Sadly, I suspect I no longer get the family discount.)

The performance was incredible! All of you burned so brightly. I feel blessed that you guys came so close to home—I read about the Boston and New Orleans performances quite wistfully, and was shocked that I would actually be able to go to anything remotely similar. Thank you guys for coming all the way out to Salem. We listened to your album on the remarkably brief drive home.

You complimented my necklace and I couldn't remember who made it—but I do now: Sihaya Designs. (I was Jessica, two sses and boring old c.)

As a driving tour goes, Ashland is a beautiful city even if you don't go there for the plays. The Ashland Bakery Cafe is incredible, the park is lovely (and famous for its natural mineral water), and the shopping on main street—from art to candy to handmade clothes—is fun, too.

Weed was one of my favorite stopping places when making that road trip, and I never really got to explore it fully ( ... )

Personally, I prefer driving down 101 on the coast instead of down the I-5 corridor....plus, with spring in the air, the mountains and the coastline should be beautiful, and the smell of the sea, the salt, and the air, has to be good for the soul and the heart...

Kevin and I will have less to haul on the way back up in our trailer, so the 101 is our destination next week. This week we take I-5 out of necessity.

You'll be glad you took the time. It's an interesting stretch of road. You driven it before?

Now I'm missing redwoods. Thank goodness we have plenty of big trees around here. I'm not tree-starved.

May fair weather envelope you and good shows await you.

Have a good time down there and if you walk down Haight street in San Francisco watch out for the hole in the sidewalk by the Kali painting. :)
