Tomorrow, South

Portland and Salem were full of hugs, smiles, friends, and comfort all this weekend.  Leaving Seattle was very rough on me this time, in spite of the fact that I won't be gone long.  housecerulia, mlerules, greektoomey were the best of all possible faces to see over and over in Portland, and my diamond-dear cohorts stealthcello,

I second the comments about 101. It's absolutely breathtaking much of the way, and you can stop at the Redwood National Forest and walk and wonder, and along the road there are many beautiful ocean views to stop and admire. Hearst Castle is also fun. I've only stopped on I-5 once, and that was in Ashland, which really is a fun town, and I would recommend - the parks are beautiful. If you're camping, Emigrant Lake is a good spot just outside Ashland ( http://www.jacksoncountyparks.com/emigrant_lake.htm )

Weed, California. It's named for the guy who founded it, but that doesn't stop them from making silly postcards. It's near Mount Shasta and is actually a rather nice little place, with (if it's still there) a great small-town grocery store in the downtown area (which is about a block long).

The Hi-Lo cafe has a good breakfast menu, if you're there at that time of day.

If you have the time, cut west on 299 when you reach Redding and head for the coast to pick up 101, then follow that to the Bay Area. You'll pass by Avenue of the Giants, which is so beautiful.

And I meant to say this before now: thank you for letting the Sirens sing at your show a couple of weeks ago. We had a good time. :)

Safe travels.

I too have pleasant memories of 101. Tillamook is a neat coastal town (yes the cheese factory is there and at least when I passed through offerred free tours - and samples :P)They also are into kites and had a cool shop with lots of bright colored ones near the beach.

It was really good getting the chance to see and talk to you while you were here. Your shows were fantastic (as usual :D)as well. You will be missed sorely while you are gone and greeted joyously upon your return, I think.

May your travels be safe and full of bright and wonderful adventures.

Once you get to San Francisco, if you have time, breakfast/lunch at Higher Grounds in Glen Park, if you have the time. It was my favorite place to eat when I was living there.

Oh yes, from there it's a short drive to two of my favorite places on earth, the old observation bunker ruins from WWII:

Bunker 1

Bunker 2
