Food and Drink rubycitymods April 18 2011, 04:29:58 UTC
Moving throughout the city, it's impossible not to notice the plethora of new smells wafting on the air: sizzling meats, sugars blending, and so on. Scattered generously throughout the streets, stalls and mobile vendors alike are earnestly touting theirs as the best meal you'll have, the best treat you'll try, the best drink you'll taste, today. It's tempting, very tempting, and the wares on offer are indeed fantastic-

Why not treat yourself to a treat? Better yet, why not treat someone else?

[[Theta has settled herself at a table, but she's only got a little bit of a nibble of something savoury. She's more interested in the glass of mead she's gotten herself, which she eagerly sips at. She is enjoying watching other people more than she is in being a pest of herself. That and she doesn't particularly know what consequences can come around here. There's room at her table for someone else to come and sit, and she smiles and nods at anyone that walks by and looks at her.]]

Miku bounced excitedly along the stalls, looking at all the yummy food. Thhis fair was so much fun so far. Oh there, a delicious grilled dish with her favorite food of all, leeks! Without a minute to lose she bought a plate of it and sat down at a table, delighting in its delishniousness

The empty spot is an open attraction to England amongst the crowds. He himself has spent some money on food and drink, which he sets down, smiling jovially at Theta.

"This really is bright and nice... would you like some?" He does of course offer forward some food.

Merchants, Tradesmen and Wares rubycitymods April 18 2011, 04:30:31 UTC
You know you want a nice new hat. Or perhaps a bangle? Something nice and sparkly, for you--Or perhaps for someone special. Stall after stall after table after booth line the streets, attractive displays of trinkets, clothing and other unusual sundries angled just so to catch the eyes of passers-by.

Does it work? Aren't you curious? Or even perhaps a little derisive- Surely nobody really buys this sort of thing, right? Wrong~

And through the lines of stalls peddling wares, a shadow moved. Celty was on foot this afternoon; the streets had become all the more crowded since the festival's announcement that it would have been impossible to bring her horse through. The foot traffic was nearly comparable to Akihabara on the weekday afternoons.

Despite not being aboard her motorcycle, the Dullahan still wore her usual bodysuit and the bright yellow, cat-eared helmet that contrasted so much with it. Despite the extra dark tinted visor that always remained down, she seemed to have no problems with browsing the various things on display, pausing to pick something up for a closer look now and then.

To be sure there were elements of this different face of the city that were even more strange to John than the city usually was. It represented a time in the past, rather than the future, or at least vaguely that ideal. And it had creatures not even his dream held.

Despite that, however, there was something more familiar and comfortable about the atmosphere of this version of the city, and as the festival began he found himself wandering the marketplace with the heavy purse he'd been given. He had very little personal needs--books, parcel, pens...but there were a few baubles he also stopped to inspect. He had such an excess of funds, it seemed improper not to find something as a gift of gratitude for the certain young lady who'd put up with his rather haphazard tour of the city.

[It's a little sad that Rikku actually has a festival-goer dressphere, but we aren't going to talk about it. She's left her goldfish at Hotel ShinRa and has already eaten her cotton candy, so she's on the prowl for other things to do. She just happens to see the stall with the most sparkling sparklies that ever dared to sparkle, and is immediately enchanted. She leans close to everything, her gold pieces jingling in the pouch tied to her waist.]

Ooo, shinies!

Music and Dancing rubycitymods April 18 2011, 04:30:57 UTC
Lively music has filled the city from what seems like every which way. The sort of music that draws your feet into tapping and then dancing-and why not dance? Certainly, it doesn’t seem to be stopping the locals. A great maypole has been set up in one of the squares, draped and wrapped in bright ribbons and garlands whose ends twist and are tugged by the air, in a merry dance all their own.

Here the music is loud and bright and lively, drums setting the rhythm while strings and pipes chime in brightly. There are those who are dancing in groups or in couples. Why not join them?

Watching from the sidelines, Lenalee clapped happily along with some of the other people as she watched the step by step dancing that unfolded before her. Everyone seemed to know the proper movements and with watching as long as she had, she was beginning to memorize them as well. From the little bows to the twirls and trading of partners.

A few of the citizens had come to offer her a dance though she politely declined, content with watching for the moment. Her eyes danced from both the dancers towards the maypole where the memory of the reason why they did that surfaced in her mind. The bright colors of spring certainly helped with keeping any sort of weary feelings away.

There we go... a straggler. He slicked his bangs back as they preceded to only uselessly fall back into their place over his face. Then, stepping confidently, he walks up the lady, bowing, and speaking in a low, amused voice.

"Do at least tell me you'll take one dance~? Otherwise you'd hurt this poor stranger with your cold..."

Watching the children as they play around the maypole, Hungary couldn't help but offer a small smile with a gentle laugh. Spring time in Europe was filled with things like this and part of her remembered celebrating such things with Germany, Austria and Prussia. While she had thought it was a little different, it was still something beautiful to behold.

Dressed in her white dress, Hungary made her way over towards the children that coaxed her with their tiny arms to join. Once there, she took a hold of one of the beautiful green and pink ribbons and joined them in dancing around the maypole.

Contests and Games of Skill rubycitymods April 18 2011, 04:31:33 UTC
There’s a roped-off enclosure that’s been set up in one of the large, empty grassy spaces in the bustling city. There are tents set up for spectators and areas for the horses to be cared for. And what horses they are-heavyset beasts for those aiming to give more weight behind their charge (while slower), or their lighter counterparts, built for their agility and stamina. The lances are light wood, not aiming for a lethal blow, and ready to break upon contact. Armour is prepared for all those ready to take on the challenge, polished and gleaming silver in the sunlight.

Meanwhile, there has been a line of brightly-painted targets, for those so inclined or confident enough in their skills to compete in the archery contest. Each bow has been carefully strung, arrows prepared in their quivers, waiting for the participants to arrive. Not unlike the jousting competition, tents are set up for spectators, the area for the competitors strung off for safety.

Monday; afternoon - Archery! ever_somnolent April 18 2011, 06:19:17 UTC
It was noisier and busier than he thought it could possibly ever be, but yet although he didn't usually care for being amongst crowds, Les liked that he had something to do, and perhaps more so, have an excuse not to be stuck in Zion's company. For all that they had seemed to reach a truce here, the boy wasn't sure he could ever feel comfortable in the other's company.

The jousting area was given a brief glance, but Les' attention was drawn towards the archery range that had been set up. He paused just at the edge of the strung off area, peering curiously at the awaiting bows and arrows.

The archery range reminded him of those people on his ship who had been archers. Fond memories, to be certain. Which was why Lazlo lingered a little longer at the site, looking at the targets (though he himself had little skill in such a thing), nostalgic.

Standing there, he eventually caught sight of Les out of the corner of his eye. He paused and blinked in his direction, curious, before wandering closer. "Do you do archery?" he questioned as he slowed to a stop next to him, offering a smile in greeting.

Blinking, Les lifted his head, peering around his hood at the young man that had approached him. He looked back at the archery equipment, thoughtfully.

"...not really," he admitted in his usual quiet tone. "...I wonder if it's all that difficult from using a gun..."
