Music and Dancing rubycitymods April 18 2011, 04:30:57 UTC
Lively music has filled the city from what seems like every which way. The sort of music that draws your feet into tapping and then dancing-and why not dance? Certainly, it doesn’t seem to be stopping the locals. A great maypole has been set up in one of the squares, draped and wrapped in bright ribbons and garlands whose ends twist and are tugged by the air, in a merry dance all their own.

Here the music is loud and bright and lively, drums setting the rhythm while strings and pipes chime in brightly. There are those who are dancing in groups or in couples. Why not join them?

Watching from the sidelines, Lenalee clapped happily along with some of the other people as she watched the step by step dancing that unfolded before her. Everyone seemed to know the proper movements and with watching as long as she had, she was beginning to memorize them as well. From the little bows to the twirls and trading of partners.

A few of the citizens had come to offer her a dance though she politely declined, content with watching for the moment. Her eyes danced from both the dancers towards the maypole where the memory of the reason why they did that surfaced in her mind. The bright colors of spring certainly helped with keeping any sort of weary feelings away.

There we go... a straggler. He slicked his bangs back as they preceded to only uselessly fall back into their place over his face. Then, stepping confidently, he walks up the lady, bowing, and speaking in a low, amused voice.

"Do at least tell me you'll take one dance~? Otherwise you'd hurt this poor stranger with your cold..."

Watching the children as they play around the maypole, Hungary couldn't help but offer a small smile with a gentle laugh. Spring time in Europe was filled with things like this and part of her remembered celebrating such things with Germany, Austria and Prussia. While she had thought it was a little different, it was still something beautiful to behold.

Dressed in her white dress, Hungary made her way over towards the children that coaxed her with their tiny arms to join. Once there, she took a hold of one of the beautiful green and pink ribbons and joined them in dancing around the maypole.

He was drawn by the sounds of lively music and merriment amidst the celebrations. It wasn't quite the sort of dance that the Family interrupted before he found himself in this City, but the similarity hit him quite suddenly. Here he stood two months after awakening on that train to this city, and once more there was a dance...although no partner with which to dance.

He chose not to go too close to the merriment, watching it instead from a distance.

Was his time almost up again? Would the Doctor return again after whatever he'd been waiting for? Would the watch that projected images project the Doctor's mind once more?

The thought that this life, even a life without England and the school and Joan, could come to an end once more left him deeply disquieted.

Theta was also watching from the distance, unable to get involved with the dancing due to her disability. She was going without her cane more often now, and she had a leather boot on over her prosthetic leg. It was still obvious from a glance that her leg was false, though. Mahogany and brass, not flesh toned at all, and her trousers weren't long enough to hide it.

She nodded at the man standing near her, offering him a smile and a tip of her top hat. "Not one for dancing either?"

He hadn't expected to be engaged in conversation. It was a reasonable enough prospect...but his mind had wandered, and he'd nearly forgotten he was out in a crowd at all. Thus, when the young lad first spoke, he simply gave the other an odd look for a moment.

Once he recovered, however, he offered a polite smile. "Not without a partner."

She smiled back at him, though there was a hint of sadness to it. "Mm. Good luck with that, then. I can't dance at all. But I hope you find one." She didn't want to let her disability get her down, but at events like this it was hard not to be at least a little bit jealous.

That earns a bit of a sympathetic smile. Dealing with young men was, after all, one of the few things he could claim genuine experience with. "Nonsense. You needn't perfect physical shape to dance, but grace and an understanding partner." His smile, then, turned a bit conspiratorial. "I'll have you know I've seen those in perfect condition stumble around with less coordination than old fellows twice my age."

Her face lit up at that, hope dancing clearly in her eyes. Wanting to dance was one of her female traits, she had to admit. Then again, as long as no one was trying to tell her she couldn't possibly have male and female aspects simply because she was indulging in her female side....

"I don't suppose you could teach me how to dance? Just...be careful with me, I've only had the false leg since November."

The young lad, once more, caught him a bit off guard. He hadn't expected...with the obvious difficulty the leg would present. Well. This was a different time than his own...than the one he was accustomed to.

"Well...I'm afraid I'm a bit better hand at imparting history than dancing technique...but I might be able to at least share enough for a lovely young lady in this crowd to help from there?"

She could have teared up, crying and hugging him and thanking him right then and there. Of course, she didn't actually do that. It was far from proper, and with him acknowledging her masculine side without prodding, she certainly didn't want to go and act overly feminine and spoil it ( ... )

It would have been a rather awkward affair for John should she have.

His smile was a touch bashful--and still a touch uncomfortable with the concept of attempting to teach a young man to dance in the middle of a public square. "Well...perhaps you should reserve judgment until you discover whether I am indeed capable after all."

Still, it was easy enough to slip back into the guise of a teacher. Two months was hardly long enough to forget. "It's best to begin at the start of a song."

She nodded easily enough, waiting for the start of the next song. "It's asking you, asking Arthur, or staying against the sidelines, I suppose..." She smiled for him, cheerful and bright. She was willing to trust him; after all, it was only dancing.

[Somehow, Rikku managed to worm her way into getting stage-time. It wasn't too hard, considering she certainly looked like a performer. Once she got on stage and the lights dimmed a bit, she grinned to herself. So what if she was borrowing LeBlanc's song? She was sure that old hag wouldn't mind. A little twirl, and it was like the musicians just knew what she wanted them to play. The music was a little different, a little less poppy, but close enough for her to get into the grove, swing her hips, and start singing a perfect rendition of LeBlanc's song. Thank you, Songstress dessphere.]

Though she was attracted to the dancing crowd, Alice avoided joining them. She was not a very good dancer. All of her partners had their feet stepped on in her last few experiences with dancing. Instead of dancing, she sat alone at a table. The music was wonderful. She listened to and applauded the wonderful performance.

The outfit of the current performer looked cute. Alice plucked at her pinafore briefly. She felt rather plain for the festivities, but she was comfortable. The performance drew her attention back to the stage. It was a nice distraction. She smiled while watching the dancers both on and off the stage.
