-Looks lke Dr. Phil has run out of the "instant fame" elixir and cannot get any more from Oprah's "Vajay-jay" cause she is giving her fame nectar to Obama. So in a desperate and lame attempt to garner some publicity and try to boost the faltering ratings on his show, he used the Spears family and Brittanys deteriorating mental condition for his own ( Read more... )

Last week I saw this headline in the paper:

Dr. Phil: Britney Needs Help

Me: That's the "No shit" statement of the year.

I agree with so many parts of this post! But the one that made me laugh was the term "fame nectar". HILARIOUS!!!!

I abhor Dr Phil. Someone would be better off just going to the self-help section of Borders than using him as some type of guiding force.

*lol* Hey in my defense I was quoting Oprah herself, so don't blame me for the awfulness of the term.

No. Quoting Oprah using that term is a million times worse. Just don't do it.

Bad.

Very bad.

Such things get people hurt.

I understand your pessimism about the elections and I know the system is fucked and should be scrapped, but you know, it's because of people like you (those so disgusted that they just don't vote) that the party system subsists. As it stands, only barely half of the country participates in presidential elections, if that. Imagine if all those people went to the polls and just voted for someone else, or just wrote down Mickey Mouse for cryin' out loud. That would be a massive statement that could not be ignored. But as long as people are like "oh it all sucks, but whatever" and stay home, there's no reason for anything to change.

Even though it might not feel like there's a lot of point, you don't really have much right to complain about what's happening in your country if you don't put forth the effort to vote. Not trying to be mean.... just sayin'. :)

Not trying to be mean.... just sayin'. :)Actually, I believe the opposite is true. If you vote, YOU are the one electing and furthering a dishonest, corrupt, and pointless system that no longer works. YOU put these people in office, played their game, and are blindly following along in all their retoric while they say one thing, then turn around and do the opposite ( ... )

So lets say 3 million more people vote for "Mickey Mouse" on the ballot and he wins the popular vote. Oh well... it doesn't count cause half of the states don't recognize them as a candidate and either the Republican or Democratic candidate won the big Electorial states and is thereby elected president even though 2/3rds of the country didn't vote for them. Sure. But think of all the coverage and thought and scrutiny that would get if Mickey Mouse won the popular vote. That would motivate so many more anti-party people to come out of the woodwork next time to vote for someone they believe in rather than one of the select few we're generally offered. Who knows -- over time, this could result in the actual election of someone not playing by the rules of the party system. It's unrealistic to think that changes like this would happen overnight, but over time they can, if people vote ( ... )

Well, not really. In order to get enough people to elect an unknown, unsponsored candidate, you would have to run an entire political campaign. And as soon as you do that, you would instantly be labeled a "loony troublemaker" by the media, people working for both political parties would hire investigators to dig up any dirt at all they can find to discredit you, and your campaign would be dead in the water and at most you would wind up a "Other: 4%" in the election results.

If I voted for someone different than who is hurting the country, then no, I have not contributed to the state of affairs. I did my part to try to stop it from happening, and if more people had stood with me instead of suffering silently, maybe we could have succeeded. No, you weren't trying to stop it from happening, you were just trying to take the state of affairs in a slightly different direction and were doing nothing to stop the puppeteers who are running the show. Instead you were helping one of the puppets ( ... )
