Date: 12 August, 1999 | Evening Characters: Kevin Entwhistle, Padma Patil Location: Hogsmeade, and then to be determined Status: Private Summary: In which Padma treats Kevin (after a sort) to a touch of adventure. Completion: Complete
Kevin dusted himself an other time and knocked shakily. He was slightly late because he had decided to make a detour and get her a small bouquet of flower, clearing his throat as he waited for her to open the door.
A few daisies in hand he smiled at Padma as she opened the door, his jaw dropping as his eyes trailed over her body, taking in the gorgeousness of her dress.. and her showing legs. "You are beautiful.." he said, biting his lower lip as he look up at her again.
It was fair to say that Padma flung the door open in her excitement when she heard the knock, but she was struck dumb by the sight of Kevin with flowers. She couldn't help but blush, however, when he complimented her, and found herself returning with a somewhat awkward, "You too. Er, I mean, you look great too."
She laughed a little at herself and stood away from the door, gesturing him inside. "It's a good thing it's not raining in London," she said, casting an eye toward the rain-darkened sky beyond him. "I don't think rain would really ruin things, though." She looked back down at him, taking in his choice of clothes. She suddenly felt slightly overdressed. Damn you, shop girl... "How are you?"
Kevin walked in and handed the flowers to her, leaning to kiss her cheek shyly. "Um, I'm finem thanks." Damn he just couldn't look at her too much as it seems, she was so pretty and he looked so stupid. Ah! Good thing I brought a tie with me..
"I didn't know where we were going so I kind of," he reached out for his pocket and pulled out a tie the same color than his pants that would fit with his shirt also. "Brought a tie just in case."
Taking a moment to smell the flowers, Padma pulled her wand from a pocket hidden in the folds of her skirt and transfigured a nearby knick-knack of hers into a vase. She set the flowers in it and then added what seemed like an appropriate amount of water to it. She decided, on a whim, to leave it out, to perhaps heighten the mystery of her night out to her roommates. She was smiling subtly at the thought just as Kevin mentioned bringing a tie.
Quelling a laugh that would probably be construed as rude, Padma shook her head, her smile deepening. "You really won't need one, I don't think. I don't remember seeing very many ties where I thought we could go. It is a very nice one, though. It brings out the colour of your eyes."
She blushed and glanced away, a little embarrassed at her own candor.
If they were ever going to actually go anywhere, well, then, they would have to move. A bit reluctantly, Padma disengaged her hold only to reach back behind herself and take hold of his hands, pulling them around her and between them. "We just have to cut through the Leaky Cauldron, and then the taxi and then...but I'm saying too much."
The truth was that there was already a taxi waiting for them. Padma had taken the liberty of calling for one several hours earlier on her lunch break, using one of those novel pay-telephone things just a block or two from the Cauldron. She wasn't sneaky at all.
"Alright, I trust you, Padma. There is no problem at all." he said even though he was resisting the urge to ask her what a taxi was. Kevin wasn't worried, just didn't like not being prepared. Ah well, maybe Padma was the adventurous sort and he had no idea about it.
"Show me the way?" he asked, keeping one of her hands in his. After all, it wasn't like they never held hands before..
For a moment, Padma felt a flash of worry. He trusted her; that meant that it really fell to her to make sure that they had a negative incident-free evening. It gave her pause, but then he took her hand and she thought that everything would be all right. She smiled at him as she turned her hand to twine her fingers in his. "Of course

Kevin saw beside Padma in the taxi and almost lost his breath when she reached out over his to close the door. He gave the driver a smile as he quirked his brow at Kevin who leaned close to Padma. "I think this is going to be interesting.." he started then gripped at the seat as the car took off.
Kevin gave Padma a sad smile, knowing he didn't tell her about his father and not quite sure he wanted to. On the other hand he didn't want to hide things from her. They were on a date, which meant it could occur again. And go further. Did he really want to hide this from her and have her find out later? No he didn't.
"Yeah, my parents were really proud when he was accepted in training. It's a pity Dad didn't get to see him finish though." He let himself talk about his father a moment, only just a little. Even though he was nowhere as close to his father as Bradley was, he still missed him terribly. Especially now that he was becoming a man, and there was no one to guide him through this.
"I bet twins is a lot of work. We don't have any in the family, but Mum often said she wouldn't have minded if I had had a twin." Kevin chuckled, smiling at Padma.
"As for our parents knowing each other, it's possible. I'd have to ask her."
Padma felt terrible as some unfathomable expression coloured his gaze. It tore at her heart in the same way that his sad smile had. From the horrible sound of things, it seemed as though his father hadn't made it through the war. She had to suppress a shudder as she thought about it, and reckoned- not for the first time- how extraordinarily lucky she had been not to lose anyone in her family, nor have had them injured or have gone missing. Padma put her hand on top of the table and slowly slid it toward him until it was closed over the hand holding his water glass. No, she couldn't begin to imagine, but she felt like she needed to do something.
"Another Kevin," she asked incredulously, once it was was obvious he had moved on. "I'm having enough trouble with one of you. I think any more might bring about my absolute undoing." She grinned and gave his hand a squeeze. "If you can remember to, ask your mum if she knows Healer Gaurav Patil. He's the best... Then again, I may be slightly biased."
Kevin chuckled and gave her a genuine smile, moving on completely from their topic about his family. "Me? Trouble?" he asked, squeezing her hand back. Not in a way of seeking support, but because he liked touching her. "How would I be your absolute undoing? I'm barely doing anything at all." Of course he knew he was flirting with her and every moment that passed made him feel more confident about his growing skill.
"You're breathing," she accused, trying to look more acutely flustered than he continued to make her, exaggerating it. "That's bad enough, for you. I mean, all I'm doing is sitting here, minding my business, and you keep being adorable. How in the world do you expect me to defend my honour against such a constant barrage of you?"
With her free hand, Padma tucked a bit of her hair behind her ear- a familiar gesture, to be sure. She had never really thought that her sometimes odd inner-musings would translate well into writing, especially nothing that would go into the Prophet, but it made her smile to hear him say so. That smile deepened when he remarked on their evening so far, and she nodded. "I'm so glad," she said, and then went on. "I'm really happy to be here tonight too

Kevin wished he could say the same about the basics of the human body. Well, he knew the name of most body parts but when it came to how it actually worked.. clueless. He chuckled and picked up his chopsticks, not letting go of Padma's hand yet. "Well, what is it you'd really want to do?" he asked her, remembering that talk they've had at the bookstore the previous week.
"Because if you like Runes, I'm sure there is something you can do about that. And if you like writing too.. I'm sure there are magazines that would like to have a writer like you on their teams."
With a sad little sigh, Padma looked at him. "Would it completely ruin me in your eyes if I told you that I didn't have the basest clue what I want to be when I 'grow up'? Because I really haven't. What about you? I know you enjoy your job, but is it what you want or wanted to do?"
"Why would it ruin you to my eyes, Padma.." he shifted on his seat and squeezed her hand. "No it doesn't. It's alright to have no idea where to go and what to do. But you told me you weren't happy with your job so I thought..."
Kevin kissed the palm of her hand and smiled at her, trying to reassure her. "I've got the job I wanted, all day with books, basically doing the same thing I was doing at school. It's comfortable and it pays well." he sighed and tilted his head. "Whatever you settle to do, I want you to enjoy it. Take your time to think it through, it's important."
Kevin was chewing on his own roll when he stopped everything he was doing, staring at his date. Oh.. He started to chew again, very slowly, while he watched for more of her reactions to their food. His cheeks flushed and he rubbed his thigh in an attempt to shake off the nervosity.
She tried everything at least once, sometimes dipping them in the sauce provided, sometimes not. It was clear the things she liked better than others; when it came to food she tended to wear her emotions on her sleeve, so to speak. After a while, though, she tempered her food lust with a measure of better manners and smiled apologetically. "Sorry, I just really love food. Not just, you know, to eat, but to really savor. My mum's is much better at being able to pick out the ingredients just by tasting them, but I still love the challenge of trying to work out what's in a dish. I think I'm a...'foodie'?"
Her expression brightened all the more as she suddenly remembered: "I learned a new game over the weekend! It's called footie, or football. Muggles play it," she added in a more quiet tone. "I played and I was rubbish, but it was so much fun! I would say that I would teach you, but I have a feeling that might be a bit tragic all around."
Kevin's blush darkened as she kept eating and making those very delicious moans. Sounds that were just a delicious as his own food. "Don't worry, I share your love for food. I like to taste food from around the world." he chuckled and shook his head. "Never quite had the opportunity to though. I ate Mexican food once. A co-worker of my father made dinner for a few people and, oh wow. Burritos." He moaned and popped a new shrimp roll into his mouth.
Padma was just in the middle of nodding in agreement when it seemed that Kevin turned the tables on her. Her eyes went wide and she choked a bit on nothing at all. She coughed to clear her throat, but it only made things worse. After several moments of coughing into her napkin, she grabbed her bag and, with a muffled, "Excuse me," jumped up to leave the table. If she could just make it to the Ladies, she would be fine and could use a touch of magic to clear the tickle that lingered in her throat.
All of this she tried to convey in a single apologetic look.
