Not even the steady strumming of rain as it pattered on her window could dampen Padma’s spirits. Even at work, people gave her odd looks; she just couldn’t stop smiling. It felt like a wonderful secret, and in fact it really rather was one. She stood in front of her mirror, butterflies dancing wildly in her stomach and her hands nervously smoothing down the front of her
dress. The shop girl had assured her that no, it really wasn’t too much for a first date, and, no, it wasn’t too much leg, and, yes, he would very much want to kiss her when he saw her in it. She and the girl had giggled together for several minutes at that. Padma had even splurged on new shoes, which she had charmed to make more comfortable.
She listened closely for her roommates as she descended the stairs leading to the first floor. Either no one was about, or they were already sequestered in their room or in the kitchen. Padma had stuck a note to either of their doors simply saying that she would be out and that they shouldn’t wait up. This would likely bring a slew of questions upon her return, but it was something she would deal with then. She had to tamp down the urge to do a little twirl as she neared the front door, and even more to keep from giggling again. It felt as though a giggle had been poised to burst forth since she had woken that morning. Get a hold of yourself, Pads… You’re going to positively drive him off, otherwise.
She glanced toward a nearby clock hanging on the wall, and saw that it was just seven now.
