Lenalee had been sleeping when the commotion downstairs awakened her. Instinct told her right away that something was very, very wrong.

She sat up in bed, straining her hearing. There were voices -- Daisya, and Tiedoll, and somebody else that she didn't recognize . . .

She jumped to her feet, grabbing a too-big robe and tying it around her, and rushed to the stairs, peering down -- and her heart nearly stopped.

Kanda was lying on the couch. Daisya and Tiedoll were beside him, and there was someone bending over him, and a tube coming out of Kanda's nose. One look at her childhood friend told her that something was very, very wrong with him that went beyond his transition back to his old self.

She let out a gasp, her hands nearly covering her face.

House watched her eyes shift and sensed exactly what must be going through her mind. "Do you need them to leave so that you can talk about this?"

He would have absolutely no problem at all kicking Tiedoll and Daisya unceremoniously out of the room. Especially because he knew where his questions were heading.

"Y-yes," Lenalee said, her eyes full of gratitude. "I'd feel more comfortable, really."

I'm sorry, Daisya, she thought. I hope you understand, but it's to help Kanda.

Daisya stood slowly and looked at Kanda again, then turned and left the room without a word. If he spoke, if he so much as glanced back, the calm he'd worked so hard to achieve would shatter. He felt bad, but he just... left

It had to work that way.

"You heard the lady," House said to their de facto audience, gesturing with his cane toward the door. "Amscray."

"Tell us if you need us again." The General said at least glad he now knew more than they changed bodies. So, he followed Daisya out of the room to give House and Lenalee the privacy they needed.

"So," House said, turning back to Lenalee as the other two left, "Anything you want to add so far, now that we're alone at last?"

"Um," she said, looking down. "I . . . I bled a little when it came back. You know, like I do at the very end of . . ." She turned beet red, looking down and twisting her fingers against each other.

House took a moment to run that statement through his 'Ashamed of My Body' to English translator.

...Bled when 'it' came back...

"You bled like at the end of your menstrual period?" he prompted. He didn't have either the time or the inclination to coddle or reassure her through this.

"Yes," she said, not looking up, fingers twisting faster. "M-my last one was about a month ago, about the time we arrived in China. We were on our way from China to Japan when I came here."

House ran his tongue against his teeth as he considered this, his brain ticking off the boxes of what passed for logical connections (as if any of this could be considered logical--no, that wasn't it; it could be considered logical. It just couldn't be considered sane. That, however, was par for the course).

His brain tapped the a pen against the edge of the monolith that this diagnosis had started as. The monolith tipped. The dominoes fell.

"Relax," he said with a nod towards Kanda. "He's going to be fine. You, however, need to practice saying the words 'uterus', 'vagina', and 'menstruation'."

"He . . . he is?" she said, a look of immense relief flooding her face. "Then, what happened to him? Why did he bleed?" She reached over, her fingertips brushing the unconscious Kanda's hand.
