[It's been somewhat quiet recently, so Rita's been spending quite a bit of time in the library, studying all she can about the subjects exclusive to Luceti. If you were to actually see her there, she'd be sitting in a spot next to the window, surrounded by textbooks and scribbling things down in a notebook that looks hand-bound. She's making sure ( Read more... )

halp, spirit hunting is go!

It'll be worth it. I just find it fascinating how magic can work in this world without blastia!

I wouldn't mind. The elemental artes here seem to be much different from back home, so I don't think you'd have any problem learning them.

...What is the healing spirit like, anyway? I've never really been interested in learning healing artes myself, but... well, I might change my mind.

On your first point, there doesn't seem to be anything of that sort. They keep to themselves, mostly ( ... )

Hmm... Okay. So, if you've already got some kind of previous knowledge about water or fire magic, you'd probably have a better chance?

Also, listening properly? Is there a specific way to do that, like meditation or something? I'm afraid magic works quite a bit differently where I come from, so I've never really had to communicate like this before.

...Sorry if it seems like I'm asking a lot. Your response was already extremely helpful, so... um, thank you.

Oh, and no worries- I'll be careful. I'm not going to try anything outrageous right away; I'd like to learn what I can first, and then study the formulas I already have to see if I can modify them in any way.

Yes, though doubtless there have been exceptions, depending on the pact-seekers determination. Although there are many spirits in conjunction with a particular element; whether or not you are able to get to the main one depends on if they decide they trust you.

Meditation is one way, yes, though sometimes they'll call out to you. Usually to one person at a time; they either communicate telepathically or verbally. It is very different from ordinary magic; it's like summoning, save you are able to control the magic itself once it is granted to you.

Due to the recent situation in which people were possessed by these spirits, albeit it not being an ordinary occurrence, I would be a bit wary of trying too much out. We do have classes at the school to aid with learning magical control, though we are taking a small break from classes for the summer months.

I see. Good.

I see. I guess the most effective way to learn would be by experience, then.

We'll try to take it easy, then- it seems like contacting all of them is going to take some time anyway, so there's no reason to do anything too quickly.

...I've never actually attended school before. I wonder if it would be beneficial to check it out after the summer is over...

I see you have some good advice already, so I'll try not to be redundant. I've learned from a few of the local spirits, though not all of them just yet. If you already seem to have an affinity for a certain element, that does speed the process, both bonding and learning. The lack of affinity only hampers a few, and with those bonding might be impossible.

So far, I haven't found a satisfactory way to combine magics. The magic of my world is static, whereas the magic of the spirits is less powerful (usually), but more flexible. Perhaps there is a better way, but it will take time and more research to uncover.

Which ones have you learned from, if you don't mind me asking? And did you already have an affinity for all of their elements?

I see what you mean... The magic in my world is a lot different than it is here as well, so I don't even know if combining the two would be possible. I'll be able to get a better idea of what I'm working with once I can learn some of the magic here, so I'll be sure to write down everything I find out.

Thanks a lot.

You're welcome! So far, I have learned magic from Nala (healing), Kipinn (wind), Sona (water), Faeren (earth) and Tsinku (lightning). I already knew some spells for most of these elements, so I guess that counted as affinity enough. I used to have healing magic of my own long ago, but became unable to use it over the years. Nala didn't mind teaching me her method, though. However, I doubt I would have gotten Sona's attention if I hadn't learned some water-based spells already.

Oh, good, that's one of the things I was most concerned about. I'd heard that Sona is reluctant to teach people without an affinity to water, and the closest thing I have is the same as you- the ability to use water-based magic.

I've only tried talking to the healing spirit, so I'm not sure how much help I can be.

I never really had much of an interest in healing artes back home, so I just didn't study them. It might actually be more useful to have them in a place like this, though, come to think of it...

From what I've heard, the healing spirit is one of the easiest ones to make a pact with. All I had to do was close my eyes and concentrate on her name and she responded to me in no time.

I've heard that about her as well. It might be a good idea for me to contact her first, then, if only just to get a feel for how their voices come across to me.

Thanks for your help.

I don't have any advice but you should talk to Raine Sage. She knows a lot about them.

Anything you come up with though, it'd be pretty cool of you to share it.

Raine Sage... Okay. I know I've heard her name before- she teaches at the school, right?

Yeah, I'll do that. There are tons of textbooks, but no proper guides about how to do this- I mean, I'm mostly doing it for myself, of course, but I guess sharing it wouldn't hurt...

Yup, she knows a ton. I was just asking her about them earlier even.

Up to you. I wouldn't blame you either way but it'd be nice...

You're going to be going after them too? If you learn anything interesting, let me know. I'm pretty sure I can make a better report with insight from a lot of different people.
