Books: Land of Painted Caves
This is the last of the Jean Auel series. It was... ok, I guess. It combined far too much anthropology and way too many names of people, places, and things for me to get into it. I'm just not all that fascinated with cave paintings. Flip flip flip oh, look, plot! And yeah, Ayla and Jondalar are special and jealous people. Got it. Fortunately, there was way less sex in this book than any of the others, so I wasn't giggling and flipping past those scenes too. The level of personal violence in this book was much higher, though, which was also worth noting.
The ending was wildly anticlimactic and assuredly not worth the 757 page slog. So if you are going to read it, I hope you have other reasons than the need for a fulfilling ending. Oh, and a quick spoiler here: Marthona does not die.
