Books: How to Flirt with a Naked Werewolf

Mar 13, 2011 22:25

I was just not getting into Battlestations, so I grabbed up a romance that I had on standby, and enjoyed a nice brainless weekend read instead.

How to Flirt with a Naked Werewolf is about as deep as the original Sookie Stackhouse novels, complete with semi-random killings, ultra-macho men, and a spunky heroine with a wacky issue. In this case, Mo's issue is having been raised by unrepentant 60's hippies who were against "the man," processed foods, and personal boundaries. Mo finally rebels for good by moving from her parents' stifling Mississippi embrace all the way to Grundy, Alaska. She ingratiates herself there by being an unattached female and by replacing an injured short-order cook at the only town diner. She ends up in a bit of a tug-of-war between the local Ranger and the local gruff-n-buff hunting guide.

The book was light, fun, and had the nigh-requisite out-of-left-field bad guy(s) against which the plot could bounce. The characters were people that I know from summer vacations, and the scenery, while sparcely described, was well-placed. The book also had some amusing banter regarding the involuntary loss of clothing by werefolk in never-warm Alaska.
