Birthday surprises

today, a colleague of mine whom I was giving a ride to carelessly shoved his very heavy toolbox onto my longchamp planetes tonal and onto the floor of my car. I didn't know it since I was seated in front (he was putting his purchases at the back of my car). I suddenly had a very bad feeling that my mother has ruined my Chanel Medallion tote. I left it in Singapore the last time I was back but my dad and I both forbid her from touching it, and I gave her strict instructions not to pile things on it/squeeze it with other stuff. Got my car!
After surviving for almost 9 months here without a car and with poor public transport here, (seriously, NY, Boston and Portland are the rare few places to have good public transport, everywhere else = driving) I finally succumbed and bought a car. Today has got to be the most touching day in my life as an educator. Right after the final exams, one of my top students came up to me and hugged me, and thanked me for being there for her.
