Unseen- because the unexpected and unobtrusive goes unnoticed so very often, bat-bots from the ruins fluttered out of open windows, traveling here and there, following people into buildings, seeking perches. They took them, then waited.
The front door to the C-Tank jingled softly as it opened.
Wolf-bots lay in wait, still as statues, their

As it was she had above-human strength and speed, though, so she was able to grab the smaller robots and crush them. And if X came near she would be able to defend him with her barrier if he needed to charge a shot or fire a long attack. She gave a small gasp at the drones, then nodded to thank him. "Most of the humans are gone. If you have any type of high-power wide-range attack I can shield you while you charge it."

"Are you insane?" he demanded when he landed near Laika. Not that he was against the idea. But he was confused as to why Laika would do it knowing the risks.

The shock pulled her mind away from the panicked civilians for a moment.
Oh god... what-
Her powers returned all too soon, throwing her back into irrational fear. Layer scooted back, further into the plants, concentrating through the panic. She would control this- or she'd die.

Isaac wasn't normally one to stick his neck very far out for other people; he kept to himself, expected others to keep to themselves, and it worked well enough for everyone involved. But he couldn't help but have some sympathy for everyone else stuck in the middle of this, and...
He winced, seeing a purple-haired girl knocked to the ground just outside the alley. That had to hurt.
But there didn't seem to be anything too close outside, and so for reasons he himself didn't quite understand, he slipped out of the alley, staying close to the side of the building, and made his way over to the girl.
"Are you okay?"

She used the 'null space' his inorganic body created for her powers to center herself. He was afraid, but his physical instincts didn't respond to her ability, and that was a hell of a lot better than everyone else's panic.
Layer breathed deeply and nodded. Visibly calming down. "Thank you," she breathed.

"It's safer this way." He tilted his head to indicate the alley behind them. "...not by much, but it's better than staying out in the open."

Enzan stepped over twisted remains of drones and mechanicals, trying to ignore the mangled bodies of the fallen innocent. This was a nightmare, a horror that wouldn't go away. It was like a bad dream...
Enzan paused, placing a hand on a blood smeared wall. The blood was fresh; the owner nowhere in sight. Suddenly, the fear he had been pushing down came back. Where's my family?

So, when the attack first began, it took a little while before the sounds of the fighting and panic reached where X was wandering the shelves, looking for a particular title that had caught his interest in a computer search.
X froze, hand extended to pull a book down off the shelf. That sounded like an explosion.
He turned up his audio sensitivity, and now he could hear the somewhat muffled sounds of weapons discharging, explosions, and screams of fear and panic coming from outside ( ... )

He was almost to the library by now, but he hadn't yet spotted X.

He peppered a pack of drones with plasma shots, the lead ones exploding and sending shrapnel into the ones coming up behind. X dodged back from the blast before sending a half-charged shot into the remaining drones. By the time the smoke cleared from the wreckage, X was already charging his buster again with a soft whine.
He glanced around for anymore drones in the immediate area, and spotted Axl coming into view down the street. One more glance at his combat scanning system and then he headed to intercept Axl.

He whirled to face it, shifting his aim - and relaxed fractionally when he saw that it was X.
