Unseen- because the unexpected and unobtrusive goes unnoticed so very often, bat-bots from the ruins fluttered out of open windows, traveling here and there, following people into buildings, seeking perches. They took them, then waited.

X had decided to pay a visit to the Library in Central District. He'd seen it on earlier visits to the area, but hadn't taken the time to explore the collections. He knew he'd probably spend hours browsing the Library, so had waited till he'd have an uninterrupted afternoon.

So, when the attack first began, it took a little while before the sounds of the fighting and panic reached where X was wandering the shelves, looking for a particular title that had caught his interest in a computer search.

X froze, hand extended to pull a book down off the shelf. That sounded like an explosion.

He turned up his audio sensitivity, and now he could hear the somewhat muffled sounds of weapons discharging, explosions, and screams of fear and panic coming from outside

Axl was still out in the streets, systematically taking out everything that came near him and gradually working his way through the district, trying to find the source - with no luck.

He was almost to the library by now, but he hadn't yet spotted X.

X was heading through the streets, searching for anyone in trouble and keeping an eye out for anyone who might know what was going on. He took out drones wherever he saw them as he went.

He peppered a pack of drones with plasma shots, the lead ones exploding and sending shrapnel into the ones coming up behind. X dodged back from the blast before sending a half-charged shot into the remaining drones. By the time the smoke cleared from the wreckage, X was already charging his buster again with a soft whine.

He glanced around for anymore drones in the immediate area, and spotted Axl coming into view down the street. One more glance at his combat scanning system and then he headed to intercept Axl.

Axl, in the meantime, was facing in the other direction, firing away. He took out another pair of drones, and realized as he fired that something was behind him.

He whirled to face it, shifting his aim - and relaxed fractionally when he saw that it was X.

X had just been about to call out to Axl when the younger Hunter whirled. He took a reflexive half-step back as Axl took aim, his arm half-coming up in a guard position. "Axl? You okay?" He wasn't entirely sure this was his Axl, but at this point it didn't matter much.

"Fine," Axl said quickly. It was only half a lie, he figured - he was fine at the moment. He probably wouldn't be later, but that was later and this was now.

"Any idea what's going on?"

Axl seemed a little keyed up, but that was understandable considering the situation. "Good."

"No clue. I was hoping you'd know."

[gunslinging]

"Nope, I don't." Axl paused, took aim at a drone approaching from behind X, and neatly shot its head off. "I was in the street and things just went to shit, and since then I've been trying to figure out where it's coming from and...stuff."

X nodded slightly to Axl in thanks for the shot. "Yeah, and stuff. I was in the Library, started hearing explosions. There's civilians in there too, but they're hiding and I don't even know where to take them that's safe. Have you seen anyone evacuating?"

"No, I wasn't paying att--I mean. I was paying attention to the stuff that was trying to get me," Axl corrected himself.

X gave Axl a slight 'look' at that slip. But he wasn't going to push, not now. "Right." He stepped forward, coming nearly alongside Axl and lifted his buster to fire off a full-charge shot behind him at a group of pantheons that came around the corner from an alley. He glanced over at Axl. "Did you pay attention to where they were coming from?"

Axl snorted. "Everywhere, near as I can tell. I haven't found anything that might be directing them, either."

By now X was fairly sure this was his Axl - the mannerisms were all right. "Then let's stick together. Maybe we can find someone who does know what's going on. Or at least someone to send to evacuate those civilians." X couldn't help thinking that now would be a good time to have a navigator to contact. Unfortunately, he didn't know if the Hunters here even had navigators yet.

[gunslinging]

"Right." Axl tilted his head back in the direction he'd come from. "There's nothing of major interest that way. Except more cannon fodder, anyway."

"Then we should keep going." X indicated the other direction. Even as he spoke, another group of drones came into sight down the road toward the Library. X started charging his buster again.

With a flash of light, a red armored figure appeared in the street among the advancing bots poised for attack. Quick to take advantage of the newer and closer target, the wolf bots leapt to attack the newcomer. Surprised, and disoriented, Zero barely had enough time to form his buster and destroy the wolf with a shot.

After sending the teleport device he was carrying safely into data storage, he punched away another wolf bot before it could take a chunk out of him. If he didn't get a chance to grab his saber he was going to rip them apart with his hands if he had to.
