Yep, still alive.Have won the metaphorical lottery of late. Two tax refunds, property tax reduced with little effort on my part, and refinancing all hitting at the same time has done wonders for my checkbook. Seriously, I appreciate all of this, thank you. And yes, as usual, I'm overthinking (and I'm totally aware this was a rant rather than totally logical thought.)
The other two are no reason to worry. I'm not being rejected, and I already learned my lesson about potential along-stringing.

The "kids just happen" line was what brought it to me that we're seeing the conflict between two different paradigms. The expectation that it's just what people do would make sense in a monolithic culture, but omni mutatens. And relating to my rant, people only "do" what they know how to.The other weirdness in treating people the same regardless of sexual potential is suspicion. Seriously, lots of people are afraid of being thought of indicating attraction and as such avoid contact, talking, or anything that could be misconstrued. This ends up making us think that foreigners (who rarely have the same hang-ups) are hitting on us, had people accusing me of flirting on someone I see as a sister, second-guessing whether it's okay to show affection for family members, and... ugh, Puritans still have their ( ... )
