I've never read an early-season Spike/Buffy story (in the sense of them actually being in a relationship) that I find completely convincing. That doesn't mean I don't think it can be done, but I've never found a story where the writer's done it to my satisfaction. Which would entail no spells, curses, time travel, etc.; just pure raw character ( Read more... )

barb is cranky, fandom, shipping

There's not enough brain bleach in the world to erase a couple of the fics I've innocently clicked on.

A perverse part of me is still waiting for someone to write the Snillow fic for my icon (which, as I recall, was inspired by a post of yours).

Ah, yes. The inevitable, "You can't write THAT! I won't read THAT!" argument. It's amazing how many times it shows up. I'll admit that there are times when those words go through my head, and I'll think, "Dammit. Another X/Y fic? That I can't/won't read? But I wanted fic today!"

IMHO, it's best to keep those thoughts to yourself.

Oh, I've thought similar things many a time. I've even posted them. Which is how I know how very easy it is to go from "I don't like or understand the appeal of X" to "All X is bad" and thence to "And people who read/write X obviously have something wrong with them."

So very much with you there. It's fanfic, people's tastes differ and how far people are willing to steer away from canon differs too. In every ship.

I'm not big on S3 Spuffy myself (because like you mentioned, to write it in a shippy character development driven way, would take forever), but the thread in question made me want to write it too.

I'm just trying to decide if I want to do something short and silly and nyah-nyah-nyah, or if I seriously want to work something out. I've been wanting to do an early-season Dawn insert story for some time, and I know that in the Barbverse, Spike captured Dawn in Lover's Walk and took her to the factory. (In addition to Xander and Willow, or instead of? Hmmm...)

It wouldn't be shippy per se, but I think I could get in some quality foreshadowing. Normally I don't care for episode re-writes, but maybe this could go far enough afield that it would be worth the trip.

ooh, that sounds very interesting, also from Dawn's perspective. I'm not sure, because it's been a while, but it was your verse, were Angelus abducted Dawn and Spike brought her back, yes?

Because that would make for interesting interaction between him and Dawn in Lover's walk. I'd see her very sceptical as to him actually harming her.

Maybe we should do a lover's walk ficathon :), possibly with penguins.

I think that was goldenusagi's fic where Angelus kidnapped Dawn and Spike brought her back.

Now, if you'll excuse me, I have an incredible urge to write S3 Spuffy.

You're not the only one. And I never wanted to before. Now, it almost feels like a duty.

Maybe there should be a whole S3 Spuffy renaissance...

With penguins.

OMG, must you penguinshippers keep flooding every comm with your perverse avian fetish?!?!1? No matter how much chemistry svelte, buoyant waterfowl may have, I cannot respect a Buffy who lacks the digits necessary to ram a stake through Spike's feathery heart!
