The sky has been strange recently. A lot of people have been commenting that it doesn't look normal, but a lot of others don't seem to notice this change.

... I did consider the possibility! However, I can pre-empt them if I'm dead by the time they arrive, and thus avoid any brainwashing or experimentation they may attempt.

It may seem farfetched, but other possibilities are limited! By comparison to saying that it's aliens turning us into television entertainment and the white noise is from our city being transmitted on their airwaves, or that the sky doesn't really exist and the entire city is actually a hologram, it doesn't seem like an unreasonable suggestion!
