I'm really uncomfortable with the way Christianity is dealt with in this fanfic because I feel like the author is shoving her beliefs down on the audience without regard to canon. Is it me or does this fic sound very...USA-centric? I'm not usually bothered by Americanisms in fics but it's really blatant in this fic that the author is American and she doesn't even try to make it sound like the characters are from the UK.

Yes. It's basically written as though it's set in the Deep South.

So either we have a writer who knows what they're doing by mimicking a writer from the deep south or we have one of those ignorant Christian's from the deep south whose part of the group that continues to buy into the lies spread about the Harry Potter series. I've dealt with them before and while they think they're doing God's work they're actually doing the work of Satan by driving people away from Christianity by making people believe that Christianity is some kind of cult religion.

I was wondering if this was going to show up here. It's gotten quite a lot of attention already. Honestly, I know that in all likelihood it's a troll, but there's still part of me that thinks there's a chance it's genuine. There's probably people in the world who think like this. If that's the case, it's 100x more annoying and the writer's attitude and ignorance concerns me.

I hope it's a troll as well, but having dealt with these people in real life I know that they think they are God's gift from heaven when it comes to evangelizing people to accept his word, but in reality they are twisting his word on its head. One of the issues here is that they've labeled all witches and wizards as being the witches and wizards that are banned by the bible, when in reality they are not. It's not even Wiccan or Druidism. This said, the writers who make it out to be Wiccan or Druidism doesn't help the misconceptions ( ... )

I have no trouble whatsoever in believing there are people in the world who think like this and would want to rewrite the HP books for their kids for those reasons. I can see this being written by someone with limited creativity and writing skills who's never read the books, but has just heard some keywords like "Hagrid", "Gryffindor", "Sorting Hat" and vague concepts like "Slytherins are bad", "McGonagall is second-in-charge to Dumbledore" and worked with that. However, what I have more trouble understanding is why they'd post it on the Pit if they really wanted to reach a broader audience of Christian (or their own very specific idea of Christian) parents, when it might be better received on a religious website. That said, it could just be because they have no real understanding of what the fanfiction community is like, and they just posted it on the first site they came across that would cater for it.

I'm sad to say if this writer is for real, you're likely accurate about this. The other option I see is a housewife whose controlled by her husband and his personal view on Christianity which means that the husband has used Christianity to emotionally and mentally abuse his family. I think these possibilities make me feel even more ill then the actual story!

This seems to me to be the Toadstool Tales of Christian fiction. Because there's plenty of good Christian fiction out there that isn't nausea-inducing. I'm so very hopeful that it's a troll.

Fun Fact #1: Reading a book will not give you the powers contained by characters within. Otherwise, I would be a god.

Fun Fact #2: Most children can distinguish fantasy from reality.

Fun Fact #3: The infamous "Thou shalt not suffer a witch to live" is poorly translated. The original word is better translated as "poisoner" or "one who casts harmful magic".
