I honestly don't understand why anyone would want to be in the HP series. There's magic, but what good does that do them? Their lives are mostly miserable, with good patches thrown in.

I can understand why someone might want to be in the wizarding world, but I wouldn't want to be in the HP series. They have to face dangerous situations, creatures, and people and still do their homework on time!
So yes, I agree with you. Being a witch, somewhere removed from the war? Awesome. Being Harry's sister? =/= fun.
Random nitpick: She's reading a book on how to create dark spells. They haven't even started Hogwarts yet! Grab a random eleven year old and give them a book on advanced Object Oriented Coding in a multithreaded system, and I'll bet you galleons to knuts the kid won't be able to understand a word of it.
Sort of like how Snape did...how much would you like to bet that , in further besmirching canon, Teddy Lupin is the same age as Amy and Harry, is a werewolfing metamorph who has to go to a newly replanted Whomping Willow, Hermione and Amy will be BFFs in Dark Wizard studies, Ron will tell Draco to go out there, Harry will have to rescue him, and Amy and Draco fall in love? Optional; The above turns into a threesome somehow.
Except we didn't see Snape creating spells until his sixth year of Hogwarts. It's not unbelievable that a brilliant, focused student could start writing his own spells at that age.
Amaryllis presumably doesn't even know how to cast spells, much less create new ones.
