LJ Idol Week 32, in which a spear of mockery is lodged deep in the heart of Texas

Jul 02, 2012 16:23

This entry is dedicated to m_malcontent and alien_infinity, who dared me to use the armadillo. No Texans were harmed in the making of this post, although many pieces of poor, unsuspecting clipart were brutally Photoshopped for the greater good. While I actually *am* from Texas, I ask that you please lock your sarcasm receptors securely in the ON position, and yes, a text- ( Read more... )

parodies, season 8, social commentary, lji, graphics

I love this. It is perfect. And I say that as a proud Southerner who likes country music. :)

I think I blocked it out when I read that about how they didn't want to teach higher order thinking skills so as to not disturb the chillun's ignorance and bigotry. *shivers* But see, parody helps and makes it easier to deal. Especially awesomely done parody. :)

UGH I WANTED TO BLOCK THAT OUT. It's just like "O hay, thanks for taking every single horrible stereotype everyone has about the south and southerners and proving them all 100% CORRECT." Thankfully...thankfully...it's actually not everywhere (the district I work for actively encourages teachers to do whatever we can to get kids thinking at a higher level), but it's still happening some places, and that's still too much. Thank you so much for reading and commenting. I'm glad you enjoyed this, and don't tell anyone, but I've got a few country songs on my "guilty pleasures" playlist myself :P

Thank you!! Spamming people with silly graphics is definitely nothing new for me, but the hilljack narrator voice was TOTALLY out of my usual fly-zone, and I'm majorly thrilled to hear that it came through okay and had the desired effect. Thanks a bunch for the comment, and glad you enjoyed!

I am so, so sorry for your brainmeats. I hope the cells that were killed in the writing of this entry are able to rework themselves.

I moved to Texas for the love of my life, but would never have done it otherwise, for all of the reasons mentioned here and many more (it's too damn huge, it's too damn hot, etc. etc. etc.) At least I moved to Austin, where 99.9% of this is not in effect because the people living there are actually cool and intelligent and open-minded.

I haven't yet seen any Rebel flags in Texas, though. Everybody goes with the Texas flag. Georgia, though, where I came from -- plenty of Rebel flags there. *sigh* I guess there's nowhere you can really escape from idiocy of this kind, not really.....

Hilarious stuff. I can appreciate the sacrifice you made to create it. :)

cheers,
Phil

Ohhhh Austin! Yeah, Austin is one of the FEW places in Texas that isn't a complete damn cesspool of fail. It's still too damn hot, but at least a lot of the evolutionary throwbacks stay the fuck away (unless they're meeting for a legislative session anyways, yikes).

I generally don't see rebel flags being *flown* around here, but for some reason it seems I see 'em all the damn time on license plates, though that was admittedly WAY more frequent around Dallas where I grew up than in Houston where I am now. Though 99% of the time, of course, it's been on a big fucking pickup truck. :P

Thanks so much for reading and commenting. I'm sorry you're stuck here in Texas though!
