Dancing with the Stars S5, week 1: the women

Sep 24, 2007 22:16

Am I the only one watching Dancing with the StarsI've been watching DwtS since about midway through season 1. It's always fun to watch the first show of a new season. Some people you've heard of, even more that you haven't, and who knows how they'll do until you actually see them? Before the show, based only on what I'd read, I'd pegged Maks and ( Read more... )

Sabrina danced well, but I didn't enjoy watching her, and I can't put my finger on why. Maybe it's the Mario factor? A certain arrogance - not just confidence - which gets up my nose? It also bothers me more than a little when one of the contestants dances for a living. Okay, a different style, but she's familiar with having choreography put on her, with learning routines, with partnering, with floor and level management. That's a lot of advantage to start with.

Marie charmed me much more than I expected. I didn't think she danced as well as Jennie though, and their identical scores seemed a little unfair. Jane's carriage was gorgeous. Mel didn't do anything to get me to look away from Maks. Josie...feh. No core.

At this time (I reserve the right to change my opinion in the future :), I will agree to disagree with you about Sabrina's personality - I don't get arrogance from her, I get a hyper and slightly ditzy vibe (time will tell) -- but I do agree with the being bothered when a contestant dances for a living. The playing field isn't level. On the other hand, it's nice that this season there aren't any truly awful contestants like Master P or Billy Ray Cyrus).

So what did you think of the men? After all of the hype about Floyd, I was disappointed -- all energy with little polish. But Helio! Totally charming -- and didn't he look scrumptious in white tie and tails? ::fans self:: And Albert had me giggling on the sofa with his go-for-broke attitude (not to mention nice Elvis swivel hips).

I predicted Josie to go. I think the billionaire guy will be next -- what say you?

Helio was a revelation. I was absolutely prepared not to like him because I don't really care for Julianne...but Helio was delightful and so was his dancing. Albert was a completely charming dork, and, um, hip action. Still don't really know about his footwork, though. Hope he sticks around, if only because I loved watching Anna Trebunskaya again. Mark Cuban was more pleasant to watch than I expected, but had a lumbering quality. Wayne Newton was also better than I expected, but not great; I expect him to have a fanbase which will keep him around a while no matter what he does (or doesn't). Cameron Matheson seemed stiff, but he was first out, so I'm willing to give him the benefit of the doubt and say that could have been partly nerves. Floyd had energy and spring, but his posture was so horrible I could barely watch. I'd imagine you're correct and Mark Cuban goes next week.

I'm also already willing to peg Jane and Helio to make it to at least the final four.

They are actually showing it here in the UK on Friday... I'll be there - I'm totally hooked on these shows. Our own Strictly Come Dancing starts its build up on Saturday!

That's great that you don't have to wait months for it like you do some other American shows! I wish they showed Strictly Come Dancing here; I'd watch it even if I've never heard of the contestants.
