I had both Verizon DSL and Comcast cable.
On the same computer, in the same house in New Kensington (old lines trust me, nothing in new ken is updated)
Comcast ran like dial-up for me. I had them come out and tweak it, I called time and time again had people come out time and time again. What finally made me kill my comcast was a customer service issue (I was late on my bill called them on tuesday told them I would be paying on Friday they said ok, came and cut it off on wednesday, and wanted me to pay a reconnect fee??)
When I got Verizon it ran VERY fast for me, I was pleased highly with it, remember on the same computer with no updating.
Unfortunately I can't get verizon dsl right now, So I suffer with aol dial-up.

Why do I think verizon dsl runs faster than comcast cable ???
(plus the customer service people are TONS TONS more pleasant to deal with!)
Simply because ... it did.

Hmm, Comcast is definitely horrible because YOU didn't pay your bill.

I'm running Comcast now for over two years and have very very rarely had any problems. One or two minor outages in over two years. Current connection is listed at 11.0 Mbps.

No. I didn't say that Comcast was horrible because I didn't pay my bill.
I said they were HORRIBLE CUSTOMER SERVICE because they said that it was okay for me to pay on Friday yet DIDN'T relay the message on the work order.
They confirmed it was on my account, said it was an oversight and THIER Fault yet STILL wanted me to pay a reconnect fee.
I guess maybe I should have told my ENTIRE life story in order to have critical people such as yourself not bash me for "not paying" my bills.
I'm also highly annoyed by the fact that I get thier flyers on a DAILY basis, big ol' enveloped flyers, which are "to current resident". guess who is footing the bill for that? that would be ... ah yeah ... you.

I recently canceled Comcast Cable Internet because of frequent service outages over the past couple of months. I usually use the internet between 12 am - 7 am due to my schedule. Every week, there would be 2-3 nights where I could not use the internet for several hours due to maintenance and/or "technical difficulties" (I called Comcast each and every time my service was out, and these were the excuses they gave me). Now I realize that I use the internet at odd times, and I don't even mind the occasional maintenance. But the frequency of the outages and the fact that I couldn't use my internet several nights a week was just too much. Especially considering how much money I was paying Comcast for it.

So I switched to Verizon DSL a month ago and haven't had a single problem or outage since making the switch. Not only is it much cheaper than Comcast, but they even included a free router (a good one too, not some cheap POS) and equipment, and shipped it overnight at no cost to me. Much more than anything Comcast has ever done for ( ... )

Ah! That explains SO much. For a couple of weeks I was unemployed last month, and I was staying up late and surfing the net most nights. And almost every night the internet would go out, and I'd mess with it for sooo long before getting really pissed off and just going to bed. Couldn't figure out if it was the modem, or the router, or what.

For what they charge, the shit should NEVER go down!!

I had thought Verizon increased their speeds up to 3Mbs/1.5Mbs If you call them to request the upgrade. Granted, Im not geting anywhere near this speed at the moment, but I was under the impression that this was the current capbilities of Verizon DSL...

i too live in south side, and cancelled my comcast service. it was unreliable, and kept giving me service outages every time it rained. there was an obvious problem wth the wiring between my house and the pole... it took hours of arguing with tech support jsut get someone to understand this, and explain to them that you can PING ANYTHING IF THE CONNECTION IS DEAD. it was beyond frustrating. eventually someone came out and discovered that the technician who hooked me up initially, did it all wrong... very professional ( ... )
