Небагато є філологічних питань, які я любив би більше текстологічних. Ось вам одне у зв’язку з Кіплінґом (котрий для мене, як ви могли помітити, останнім часом є головною розвагою і втіхою. Вчергове).

В більшості сучасних видань «Книги Джунглів» друкують за ранніми виданнями: в Книзі Першій спочатку йдуть оповідання про Мауглі, а потім - про Ріккі

А тот рассказ о взрослом Маугли от лица белого сахиба Киплинг никогда в основной корпус не включал?

Бывало (напр., в собрании сочинений 1898 года), но потом отказался от этой идеи.

Когда он переиздавал «In the Rukh» в журнале уже после «КД», то добавил такое примечание: «This tale, published in ‘Many Inventions’ (D. Appleton & Co), 1893, was the first written of the Mowgli stories, though it deals with the closing chapters of his career -- namely, his introduction to white men, his marriage and civilization, all of which took place, we may infer, two or three years after he had finally broken away from his friends in the jungle (vide ‘Spring Running’, Second Jungle Book). Those who know the geography of India will know that it is a far cry from Seeonee to a Northern Forest Reserve; but though many curious things must have befallen Mowgli, we have no certain record of his adventures during those wanderings. There are, however, legends».
