Hello everybody! How was everyone's new year? Mine was rubbish, but never mind. Christmas was low-key, but fine. I'm thinking of dropping out of Leeds and re-applying to do Anthropology instead, at Durham or UCL.

Problem is, no science qualification whatsoever, not even a GCSE (long story - nothing to do with my being rubbish at science, which I ( Read more... )

I... I like vampires.

But robots scare the shit out of me.

I always think that vampires are more to do with examining attitudes towards sex, particularly heterosexual men's love-hate relationship with aggressive female sexuality, than actually being scary. If they're supposed to be scary then they are made of epic fail. "Ooh, I have slightly sharper canines than normal, and if I bite you then you might have to become immortal!". Chilling.

I think robots are kind of sweet, but I guess it's less fun when hordes of them turn on you and stuff. Yeah, that's not so great.

Yeah, vampires ooze sexuality. Not much on the scary, unless you're afraid of pale skin or really love garlic.

But- but who doesn't really love garlic? It's nature's pepper spray!

Yay! Glad you loved! A lot of them are ridiculously geeky, of course, but this is a Good Thing in my universe. Not that I actually understood all of them. Maybe I should go and learn Latin...

Zombies are the only ones I've ever had nightmares about. So that solves that.

I also think robots are cute. I've watched Iron Giant too many times.

Sometimes, at night, when I'm coming in through the back entrance to my building, I make zombie defence plans. I keep one eye on the mirror, so I'll see it coming, and then I calculate how long it will take me to get behind the big metal door if I need to make a run for it. Sometimes I speculate as to whether it's possible to kill a zombie with a key before it bites you (I've decided not).

That all SOUNDS perfectly sane, of course, but to put it in perspective I have no rapist defence plan or psycho killer defence plan.

I've never seen that film! I want to, though; in primary school one of my favourite teachers read us The Iron Man and The Iron Woman, and I loved them both.

You MUST see Iron Giant. If you never seen another animated kids' movie, see Iron Giant. It's... there are no words.

One of the greatest moments I've ever had with my sister was when we were in China, staying at this Tibetan-style house. All of the rooms were on the second floor, walls are stone and plaster, no windows at ground level, and there was a big door with a lock and bolt and everything. I turned to her and said, "This would be exactly the kind of place I'd want to be-"
"In case of a zombie invasion? Yeah, definitely."

Lol, my weirdness is genetic.

It's not weird! It's perfectly sensible! We must be vigilant if we are to outsmart not get eaten by the zombies!!

My building's fairly secure. We're on the fifth floor, the windows are up high and the security system is good, BUT there's a roof garden beneath the window - you probably couldn't get up from there, but if you had to jump out of the window you'd have a decent chance of surviving the fall.

Not that I think about this a lot, but...

Zombies are especially terrifying, but I don't like vampires either. Or any other kind of featured creature in a horror type film. *shudder* All of it just creeps me out. *hides under the bed*

What about ghosts? Are you scared of ghosts? I'm only scared of ghosts if they're kind of rotting and bits of their faces are falling off and stuff, or if they can physically hurt you or whatever. Although actually I was terrified watching The Sixth Sense. But I think I was pretty young at the time.

Witches and things? Scary?

I'm scared of all those things if they're in a horror context. I'm not scared of say, the Wicked Witch of the West or the ghosts in the Harry Potter films. That sort of thing. But if they're in a horror context, I'm scared of them. And aliens, too. I couldn't sleep after I saw War of the Worlds. I'm the biggest baby in the world when it comes to stuff like that. No horror films, scary hayrides, haunted houses. I hide myself away in my house with romantic movies on Halloween. It's a little sad, really, but I can't help it. Had some traumatic experiences when I was younger involving Halloween, slasher films, and scary "festivities." Heh.

Well, I watched The Witches when I was a kid and I ran out of the room screaming when she peeled her face off... and I nearly fainted watching The Village. I am not exactly hardcore.
