Tonight it is supposed to freeze so Erin and I picked onions, beets, dill, squash, cantaloupe, peppers, and the tomatoes off a few plants. The rest of the tomatoes we covered with a tarp which should protect them enough for the night. I chopped up and froze the green pepper and then canned the beets. Felt good to get that done. When my sister broke her collarbone she waited for ever in the waiting room also. They are always so busy. Don't over do your hand! It sounds like you are doing a lot of work with it :)

Ouch, that must have hurt. My brother broke his collarbone several years ago.

My hand is back to normal now which feels SO good! :)

Glad to hear your hand is much better! Don't over use it now. :) Sounds like you have been busy! It is getting cooler here too, but no freezes yet...

I just kept gradually using it as I felt comfortable. Thankfully it feels as good as before the accident.

We've had a lot of colder weather here while I was gone. Today though is warm and howling since a chinook is blowing through. I suppose it is pretty there with all the fall colors.

Yay, you got your splint off! It must feel so good to be able to do some of those other things now. I would have to say not being able to do what I normally do to my hair would be one of the toughest things. I tried to grow cantaloupes a few years. One year I succeeded in getting one but it was tasteless! I also grew watermelon one year and they were small but very tasty

I'm hoping to start more cantaloupe and watermelon plants next year. I grow the type for colder climate. This year though I think they did good because it was so hot.

Can't remember...if it didn't it was very close to freezing. While I was gone, Erin ended up having to pick all the tomatoes off though because it was staying too cold.

No, my cantaloupe wasn't the Alaskan kind but it was a type the seed catalogue suggested for colder climates. Our elevation is 3000 feet and I think sometimes our season isn't quite long enough either. Having the etreme heat helped this year for the melons but was hard on just about everything else.
