Tonight it is supposed to freeze so Erin and I picked onions, beets, dill, squash, cantaloupe, peppers, and the tomatoes off a few plants. The rest of the tomatoes we covered with a tarp which should protect them enough for the night. I chopped up and froze the green pepper and then canned the beets. Felt good to get that done. I finally grew a cantaloupe that matured and tasted sweet and juicy!! I took a picture for evidence as well. Ha! :)Now my family can quit laughing at my attempt to grow melons. :D My squash did terrible, for which most my family is thankful. LOL! :P :D
Dad and I drove through our cow/calf pairs today to get a count, see how they were doing on the grass, check the weight of the calves, etc. We are planning to sell them soon as there isn't much grass left for them. We'll be selling the cows and keeping the calves to feed. Erin sold hers a week ago and the price has dropped 4 or 5 cents since then. :P We are waiting for a buyer to call back with a bid.
Yesterday I got my splint off! I went in at 9 AM and they were swamped--why does that seem to happen when I need to go to the hospital?? The waiting room was full so you had to wait in another area. My name/file somehow got missed so I ended up waiting for a while. I didn't want to appear impatient, but when I noticed people that had come after me getting called up to the desk(they call you in the order you are entered into the computer), I thought I should ask. The nurses I think get tired of people asking when their name is going to get called so weren't that friendly. She went back to look for my file and couldn't find it and said I'd be the next one in line. While another receptionist was helping me, I heard her saying to someone else that some files were missing. I was just glad to get that paperwork done so I could head down to the hand clinic. The surgeon said he had heard that there was a long line there as I didn't get down there until 9:40 and my appointment was at 9. He said he had been waiting for me but I just explained that they had lost my file. He took my splint off and thought it looked good. He told me to just use it for when I am doing more strenuous work over the next two weeks and then quit wearing it after that. The occupational therapist gave me some exercises for my thumb since its range of motions is still quite a bit limited and does get sore if you push it too far. It hurts to touch the bottom of my pinkie with my thumb and to bend it at the first joint. I am supposed to go back on Monday for a check-up and then I think that should be it.
I think it would drive me crazy to work as a OT. Maybe it is just because I don't really do the group hug thing. :P I don't need someone to tell how I have just made woooonderful progress, how good the range of motion is in my fingers and doing good with my thumb, etc. I don't mind being given their assessment but it gets almost so overdone that it seems kind of fake. They had to write down my goal when I first got my splint...um, for my hand to get back to normal, lady. :P :D Like why else would I be here?? I didn't say that to her. LOL! There is these signs over the office there: "Seeing the ability in disability"; "Each individual is unique"; "Health isn't just the absence of disease"; "Individuals are capable of making their own decisions," and blaaahhh.
It has been fun to start using my hand like normal for the most part. I started putting sand between the trees(my splint on for that), played the piano with both hands-that felt good! :), washed and dried dishes(I still remember how ;)), cut cantaloupe, etc. :) Next attempt will be putting my hair back in a clip as I couldn't do it with just one hand.
Hard to believe only a week until I leave!! I'm getting excited...or I guess that would be more excited. :)
