Wintry weather hits Wisconsin--we hit back ????

Well, winter has hit our part of the country with a vengeance. Several inches of snow on the ground and recalcitrant ice on the sidewalks and streets. Not to mention temperatures in the single digits at night [and that's not taking into account the windchill!]. Now the forecast is for at least 3-5 more inches of snow. And perhaps more after ( Read more... )

That's crazy! In the FIVE years I was in Beloit there was hardly any snow, just WIND and COLD. Maybe some ice. But it was just dry dry dry. Now when I'm gone you get snow and Michigan is lacking in the snow. *sighs* I would love to have a few inches of snow on the ground. But no.

Beloit is just enough south of us that it often doesn't get the same weather that we get here in Madison. Actually, you are welcome to as much of this snow as you want--just grab a shovel and come on over!

A few inches of snow is sort of nice at this time of year--very Christmasy and all that, but this is ridiculous.

Are you bragging or complaining? ;) We probably won't see 76o again until next May. If then. The trouble is, by July and August the temperatures can easily be up in the high 80's and 90's along with high humidities as well. It seems a bit unfair to have both extremes.

At least our weather is interesting [in the Chinese sense, of course]!

Well, Richard lived in Boston until he came here, so he's pretty much used to long, cold winters. I, on the other hand, have lived in Virginia (near DC) and in Tennessee, so I know what long, hot summers are like [that was, in fact, one of the main reasons that I decided to come up north to begin with]. Although, I must say, even in VA and TN, we occasionally had snow and ice and periods of temperatures below 40oF. Given the choice between long, hot, humid summers and long, cold, snowy winters, I guess I would have to choose the latter. At least we have wonderful autumns up here, even if the springs are pretty putrid. Neither one of us is interested in living someplace where the weather is temperate all year around. What really amazes us, though, is the fact that the Native Americans and the early white pioneers survived up here without modern heating methods. Tough people, without a doubt.

Is there an echo in here or does your subject heading sound like something to do with Lois McMaster Bujold?

Yes, of course. It was a take off on the blurb about Bujold's Memory: "Miles hits thirty; thirty hits back." A good book and a wonderful phrase.
