Wintry weather hits Wisconsin--we hit back ????

Dec 04, 2007 08:30

Well, winter has hit our part of the country with a vengeance. Several inches of snow on the ground and recalcitrant ice on the sidewalks and streets. Not to mention temperatures in the single digits at night [and that's not taking into account the windchill!]. Now the forecast is for at least 3-5 more inches of snow. And perhaps more after that. *sigh* It follows that the snow has to be shoveled [before and after the plows come through], the icy sidewalks walked on, and the treacherous streets driven upon. This is what we get for living in Wisconsin, of course--although, theoretically we're all supposed to be experienced with this sort of weather and to be able to take it in stride. Hope this isn't a foretaste of what the rest of this winter is going to be like--after all, it's usually supposed to be at its worst in January, rather than December.

[ETA #1: Just in case people were wondering, we got six more inches of snow yesterday (on top of the snow and ice we already had) and more snow is forecast in the next several days. It's currently 17oF. Since the wind is about 13 mph and coming from the north (i.e. straight from the Arctic), they say it feels like 4oF outside. Tonight the temperature is predicted to get down to an actual 5oF, so who knows what the wind chill will be like. Sounds like a good night to stay home. At least it's supposed to get all the way back up into the twenties after that. A veritable heat wave!]

[ETA #2: Well, instead of getting down to 5oF as was predicted, it actually got down to (a real) -10oF, only one degree from breaking the temperature for that day. And, of course, we did get more snow. This winter is shaping up to be a real beast! Snow predicted again on Sunday. *sigh*
