Gaara didn't even look up at Gai's bellowing voice this time, having gotten over the initial shock of the man trying to attack hug him after the first few tries. The solid "whump!" of a body hitting the sand that arched out from the lip of his gourd automatically was strangely loud (though to be fair, everything about the taijutsu specialist was strangely loud), and the Kazekage stopped walking so he could cross his arms over his chest and frown.

He could have sworn he'd given the stipulation 'no hugs.'

Regardless, it wasn't like there was anyone at Paradisa who would be a better Taijutsu teacher, and it was oddly... something. Maybe not comforting, because for the most part it was incredibly uncomfortable, but... nice. Having someone at least try, and all. Even if he got a face full of sand in the process ( ... )

"Oomph!" Gai slid down the sand shield, falling on his rear into the grass. Stroking his chin, he looked up at the younger man, watching the sand linger in the air protectively around him. Such a cruel existence, to not be able to feel the loving touch of a comrade! He thought dramatically, vowing to never give up trying to catch that sand off its guard.

He jumped to his feet, clasping his hands together and bowing slightly. "Thank you, Kazekage-sama, for being punctual! I assure you, I appreciate your effort." He smiled and met Gaara's eyes, giving him a wink and outstretching his arm, the infamous thumbs-up now in Gaara's face. Gai was pretty sure the sun was directly behind him, wanting to have the perfect lighting.

"It's a beautiful day, is it not?" He crossed his arms, trying to lean back against the tree that he had dove out of. Miscalculating its distance, he just kind of...fell backwards instead, hitting the ground with a loud thump.

Now he will think you aren't cool! Gai scolded himself, trying to save face. He ( ... )

Gaara nodded wordlessly at Gai's praise of his punctuality, before letting his arms fall to his sides. He watched the man's flailing about, and winced slightly at the magnificent ping and flash that Gai's teeth gave when bared in a grin. The Kazekage honestly had no idea why he was being winked at, or how Gai had positioned himself just so the sun haloed his ridiculous haircut, or for what reason there was a thumb pointed defiantly skywards in his face ( ... )

"Oh, I'm fine!!" He laughed loudly in an animated manner, glad Gaara had said nothing about his fall, assuming mission cover-up was a great success. "Never been better!!" He quickly swiped up a couple of dandelions, then brought himself up to his feet again, plucking them and watching them go in the wind ( ... )

Gaara was distracted by the sudden appearance of the rainbow, never having been privy to any of Gai's infamously well backlit speeches before. Lee's, while they certainly weren't lacking in gusto, hadn't gotten quite to that fevered pitch. While he had been talking to Gaara, anyway ( ... )
