Ben's dead.
That's all in April's mind. She wants to drink. She wants, for the first time in ages, to be high, high as a paper kite, so she doesn't have to think. But she can't. And she can't bring herself to be broken on JD right now, because he's broken, and she feels so amazingly guilty that she can't be there for him, but it hurts too much

However, he stops worrying about that momentarily when he sees April. He's been hoping to see here since he got here.
"April!" he says, walking over with a bright smile, all oblivious cheerfulness. "The last time I saw you I was a different man."
He hasn't noticed the tears yet for he is the lonely dumbass. Give him a minute.

And then she gets it. Because that grin... it changes with the face, but it's always the same grin, always the same twinkle in his eye.
She forces a weak smile. "Doctor."
The one person who could make her feel better right now, short of Ben coming back. This is good.

He takes a seat near her - and then he realizes there's something wrong. The Doctor is very perceptive. Or something.
"Did something happen?"

Sighs, and curls in on herself tighter. "A... a friend of mine died this morning." A very close friend. That should be obvious even to the lonely dumbass.

"Um. Hello, miss. I noticed you were crying, a...and I wondered if there's anything I could do to help?"

"Hey. It's..." well, it's not fine, and she's not going to lie and say she is, "It's not really something you can make better, sweetie. But thanks."

"Ah, I'm sorry. I don't suppose there's anything I can do, but... I know how it feels. Well, you know. To, um, miss somebody like that. If you'd ever like to talk, I'll be around." He smiles sadly, hoping for the best.

"How... how did you..." she shakes her head. "I'm April."
Distraction. It's good.

She's actually just come from the event herself, having meant to go into the oncall room, but found herself here of all places.
Seeing her friend (and sucking up her own sorrow because she knows April is hurting more) she moves to stand beside the chair and place a hand against her blanketed shoulder.
"Hey, chica..." A small, sad smile is given and there will be hugging, if at all possible.

Clinging is all that's necessary for a moment.
"How's Dr. Cox? How's Jordan, does Jordan know?"
Oh, April.

"Dr. Cox... he's..." He's reacted just as he should, if not worse. And Jordan, goodness, she doesn't even know. Even her whole mind is a blur. "He's taking it pretty hard..."
She won't lie, even if it's what her friend needs to hear.
She pets her friend's hair comfortingly.

Even though she's hurting a lot. Probably close to as much as they are. Not exactly as much, of course, but... she attaches to certain people quickly. And deeply. She tends to give her whole heart to people she really cares about. And so it hurts when she loses them.

He doesn't notice her at first, his mind drifting from subject to subject before something clocks and he takes a few steps back, studying the lump of blanket before taking a closer look.
"April," he questions, coming around to the front of her chair.
When he notices the tears, he'll drop to his knees, one hand moving to brush tears away. "April, what's happened? What's going on?"

She hasn't really let herself cry like this yet. This is what she needed.

Shifting slightly so that he might move a bit closer, fingers start to rub light circles against her back as he mutters soft comforting words into her hair, all in attempts to perhaps calm the girl down a bit.
He wants to know what's happened to make her so distraught but he can wai.

Eventually, though, she's not crying as hard, just... sniffles and trickles.
"Thank you," she mumbles. "Sorry."
