I wish that I could see you again, I know that I can't

Ben's dead.

That's all in April's mind. She wants to drink. She wants, for the first time in ages, to be high, high as a paper kite, so she doesn't have to think. But she can't. And she can't bring herself to be broken on JD right now, because he's broken, and she feels so amazingly guilty that she can't be there for him, but it hurts too much ( Read more... )

Eight has been fluttering between the Inn and his own TARDIS for a while now, so he hasn't had the ability to catch himself up on current events. This is why you'll have to pardon him, April, if he seems a little out of the loop.

He doesn't notice her at first, his mind drifting from subject to subject before something clocks and he takes a few steps back, studying the lump of blanket before taking a closer look.

"April," he questions, coming around to the front of her chair.

When he notices the tears, he'll drop to his knees, one hand moving to brush tears away. "April, what's happened? What's going on?"

April looks away from the fire only long enough to screw her face up against the tears, then just sort of... tips forward a bit to bury her face in the Doctor's neck, not even bothering to untangle her arms from the blanket, and starts sobbing.

She hasn't really let herself cry like this yet. This is what she needed.

"Shhh," he tells her, arms moving to wrap around the girl and hug her tightly.

Shifting slightly so that he might move a bit closer, fingers start to rub light circles against her back as he mutters soft comforting words into her hair, all in attempts to perhaps calm the girl down a bit.

He wants to know what's happened to make her so distraught but he can wai.

It takes a few minutes for her to calm down. It just hurts, y'know?

Eventually, though, she's not crying as hard, just... sniffles and trickles.

"Thank you," she mumbles. "Sorry."

"No worries," he assures as he thinks up a handkerchief and offers it to her. "It sounds like you may have needed a good cry."

Sitting silently for a moment, he's in a debate on whether he should ask her yet again what's going on, or perhaps wait until she finds the need to tell him herself.

This debate doesn't last very long.

"What happened," he questions yet again. "What's got you so upset?"

"Ben died," she whispers. Grimaces. It hurts it hurts and it makes her want to start sobbing again just saying it. "Oh god. Oh god."

She buries her face in her hands.
