I know most fans have been waiting for this casting announcement, but honestly, I'm more interested in who they're going to cast to play Mr. Willoughby. That character always made me rather uncomfortable in the book, because he came across as such a stereotype. I'd be OK with totally leaving him out of the TV series -- except for one thing -- how else will Claire learn about acupuncture?

They're writing Mr Willoughby into the script? Oh dear, so many racist pitfalls!

Well, I don't know if they are. He is sort of a major character, and the whole acupuncture treatment for seasickness is a key thing, so they have to do something.

Yeah, so far we were only told about Jamie's seasickness, the only one who went fairly green was Claire. I am curious if this becomes more than just a nod to the book readers on Voyager. Claire might just as well learn about acupuncture in the twentieth century?

I have never consciously seen him in anything but he looks aristocratic and boyishly handsome enough! Bit tall maybe? But then, so is the rest of the cast. It is certainly a great opportunity for him!

It really is an awesome opportunity. I wonder if they'll make him more fair. John is more blonde right? I can see it. I'm more interested to see how Sam and David act together. That will be the best part.

I hope this starts a stream of other characters being cast because there are so many...

Fergus
Mr. Willoughby
Young Ian
Duncan Innes
Marsali
Joan
Young Willie

Probably more I can't think of.

Geneva!

(Although I did read one bitchy comment on Twitter that "Sam's latest squeeze" had been cast in that role but I am not one to give that much credence.)

Oh I forgot about here. Her parents and her sister too. Maybe even Hal as well. Don't know though.

I can't wait to see what David looks like after he's gone through hair and make up.

People really need to be less fixated on the book descriptions. The amount of abuse being heaped on Sophie Skelton because she's not tall enough, has the wrong eye-colour, etc., sickens me and makes me sad for just about every other actor who gets cast going forward, especially the poor sod who's going to have to play William if they get to a season 7-8. Trying to find a clone of Sam Heughan is going to be impossible. What matters the most is that they embody the essence of the character. I don't really give a toss about eye colour or height as long as they become that character, and so far, everyone cast has been great.

I think some of us are defensive about how Sophie was received. But we can all agree that the Outlander Costume, Make up and hair people really bring out the characters in all the actors.

I think he looks right for the part. I never cared that much for the character, but I was still rather curious about the casting.

I'm not a huge Lord John fan. In fact, in the beginning I didn't like him but have liked him more as the Outlander books have gone on. I'm listening to WHOB and I'm like John and Hal in the story.

I've gone from not liking him to being luke warm. He'll never be one of my faves.
