This looks amazing and there are some really great parts from the books that I can see in the trailer which is making me super excited. Why isn't it November?

While at the BAFTA Awards this weekend, Caitriona Balfe revealed that season 5 will have 12 episodes rather than the 13 we've had for seasons 2, 3 and 4, and that it likely won't air until 2020. The University of Edinburgh and National Museums of Scotland are offering a free, 3-week MOOC (Massive Open-access Online Course) on the legacy of the Jacobites. Part of the course will look at the cultural impact of the Jacobites, including the Outlander series.

Going by this article, it seems that what is being debated isn't renewing Outlander for a season 5 and 6, but whether to stick to the 1 book per season formula or break up the books over 2 seasons.
