xof is a heavy B/M shipper. Have you read her recaps of last season and this one? Every those most significant B/J moments get little more than a throw-away sentence, while everyone else, lezzies included, will get paragraphs for even the silliest things. Her season one and two recaps were pretty good, but during the third season, once it became obvious that B/J were going to be it for the long run, not just Brian's practice run so he could eventually have a real relationship with Mikey, the B/J parts of her recaps totally changed. There's no way I could call her recaps impartial now.

Right now, I would say that Charley's are the most impartial recaps out there for QAF. She equally covers every aspect of each episodes, and rarely let's her opinion leak through(it happens, but not that often). Max' recaps reminds me of Camper's, because of the snark, but unlike Camper, he likes the show, so they're fun to read.

Yeowch! B/Mer? Whoa, OK, this can't be the same person. I run like the wind from B/Mers who do recaps. I believe the woman after Camper who did recaps was a closet B/M fan, or whould have been if she hadn't hated the show so much. Maybe I'm thinking of someone else with a shortish, weird name who does recaps? I read all of latter-S3 recaps and didn't detect B/Mness, so I must have been mistaken on xof.

I have difficulty with QAF recaps because they can be very biased. I'm not really a shipper because I like B/J but I also like B/M and Ben/M. My loyalty kind of splits evenly between all of them. So when reading recaps or summaries like Danny's, Whatlovemeans, Xof, Charley, etc they're hard to read when they become biased against certain characters. When they seem to go out of their way to make fun of a character or even an actor is when I get frustrated because it's not necessary. Also it seems that newbies get directed to these when asking for places to go and some of these people are so clueless about the show overall that they're easily influenced and tend to get a different view of the show because of that.

Wow! A pan-'shipper, sort of. That's cool, 'cause you'll likely find something to like in each episode, as opposed to being an unconventional 'shipper ::ahem Ted/Brian:: wherein you're usually SOL.

It has no place anywhere; not in recaps, not in fic, nowhere. I don't like Hal Sparks much. I've met the man and he was amazingly nice, but I can't forget how much of an asshat he was about his "straightness" when the show first started. That said, I would not bash him outside my personal journal or in IMs to friends. Commenting on an actor's skills in a recap is kind of harsh, IMO. ( ... )

That said . . . am I wrong to have a problem with recappers who try to put their 'shipper slant on events?

No, of course not. But now that you brought it up, crack_van in particular, I think the reader puts their slant on the interpretation as well.

As soon as you mentioned CV I thought of the SG-1 summary and how it burned me that it seemed to slant toward Jack/Sam when I ship Jack/Daniel. So I went back to find an excerpt to trash here, and when I re-read it I realized the writer gave an equal statement to both pairings, but just happened to choose a pic that put Jack closer to Sam than Daniel and that pissed me off.

Clearly, my annoyance meter was just on high that day and it stuck with me. So I guess the point is... uh. Well, maybe that you can't control someone else's slant, but you can try to be more aware of yourself tipping the scale further? Or something like that... :\

No other pairings will do - ever. I'll never be a pan-'shipper, though I will have secondary 'ships I like. But in every fandom I've been in, I've had a OTP that stayed that way throughout, for me ( ... )

Exactly! People who write one story with Brian/Justin and then another with Ben/Justin just freak me out. Someone else once said it's okay if it's just sex or part of an agsty plot that is eventually resolved, but don't ever try to tell me it's true love when it's not my OTP! And ITA!!

That's not the fault of any fans - it's the fault of TPTB. Oh, man, TPTB in any fandom just suck royally. I guess that's why I wasn't into true slash until recently (debate of QaF as slash elsewhere, yawn) because it was hard for me to go against the canon pairing of TPTB. If I got Buffy/Angel crammed down my throat in every episode, I had a problem reading stories about Angel/Xander ( ... )

Since the crack_van reviews are each so clearly written by one person trying to outline an entire show, I find it unsurprising that slant makes its way in. I find that as long as the writer *acknowledges* that their bias is towards a certain pairing and makes a decent attempt to mention the other popular pairings, then I'm not upset. It doesn't sound like that's what happened for DS9, though. :(

So... yeah. If the bias towards a certain pairing is mentioned, then I lose the feeling that someone's trying to manipulate me to see things their way.

Or something.

That's the other thing that calmed me down some; It's damned hard to outline one episode, let alone an entire show. I have to give the DS9 recapper props for hitting the major plot points and characters and turning points, etc. I don't know if I'd have been able to do as good a job.

It doesn't sound like that's what happened for DS9, though. :(No, it really didn't. And I think the imbalance happened because Bashir and O'Brien are both crewmembers and so both had their own sections, so there was ample opportunity to "double dip" there. Garak should have had his own section, and I'm wondering if the recapper had been anyone but a B/O'Ber, would Garak have still been given such a short shrift ( ... )
