Also, there's something about the phrase "immigration sweep" that makes me cringe so badly.

MY GREAT GRANDMA DIDN'T GET ANY HANDOUTS SO THESE PEOPLE SHOULDN'T GET ANY EITHER!!
(actually, my great-grandma came from italy to enter into an arranged marriage as she was in her 30s and and ~old maid~. her husband-to-be was a widower who needed a woman to take care of his son. he eventually got deported, leaving her with seven children, including his son that wasn't even biologically hers. my grandmother was raised on handouts. /cool story bro)
