July 29 was a day of civil unrest across the country as hundreds took to the streets to protest Arizona's SB 1070. In Arizona, Sheriff Joe Arpaio wasted no time rounding up protesters. A total of at least 50 people were arrested in Phoenix after peacefully confronting police dressed in riot gear, including several journalists covering the story ( Read more... )

:/ why am I not surprised by this?

Also, there's something about the phrase "immigration sweep" that makes me cringe so badly.

As usual, don't read the comments at the source. And if I have to hear someone say that "Everybody that is not in this country legally: PLEASE LEAVE! Go home and apply to enter this country legally. If you are here illegally you are a criminal, please leave" again I WILL SLAP THEM ACROSS THE FACE WITH THIS

Sadly, most of the people you'd slap this with would be like, "OH WELL, SUCKS TO BE THEM!!"

HEY IF MY WHITE ANCESTORS WERE ABLE TO EMIGRATE TO THE US AND ASSIMILATE THROUGH COMPLETELY LEGAL MEANS THESE BROWN FOLK FROM LATIN AMERICA CAN DO IT TOO!

MY GREAT GRANDMA DIDN'T GET ANY HANDOUTS SO THESE PEOPLE SHOULDN'T GET ANY EITHER!!

(actually, my great-grandma came from italy to enter into an arranged marriage as she was in her 30s and and ~old maid~. her husband-to-be was a widower who needed a woman to take care of his son. he eventually got deported, leaving her with seven children, including his son that wasn't even biologically hers. my grandmother was raised on handouts. /cool story bro)

EVERYONE SHOULD JUST GO BACK TO THEIR HOME COUNTRIES AND LET TRUE AMERICANS*~*~ BE

:/ I'm fortunate enough that the immigration process was relatively painless for my family. My maternal grandparents moved from Mexico the US in a time when visas were easier to obtain, my mother was born here, my father married her and later became a citizen, I fall under the category of "US citizen born abroad" and my brother was born in the US too. It's not until I began to learn about what a nightmare the immigration process is that I realized how fucking lucky we are.

This is a really great explanation of why our immigration is fucked up.

This absolutely perfect--I've been trying to explain this to people, but it gets confusing without a flow chart. Snagging, TY.

Lol, have you ever tried to immigrate to any other country on this planet?
I guarantee you it is 100 times harder than this if it is even possible at all. Some countries simply don't allow it, and most are way, way, way harder to get into than the USA.
