Twenty Random Facts You May or May Not Know About Seto and Noa at DU.
1. When Seto and Noa were little, they used to play with Lego together. Seto never pushed off Duplo onto his younger brother; he shared his ‘grown-up’ toys with Noa willingly. The first baby laptop he got as well was shared with Noa, but only in a certain sense of ‘shared’. Noa wasn’t allowed to play with it, but he could look over Seto’s shoulder, fat little body plonked on Seto’s back. Noa learned to type from watching Seto’s fingers.
2. DDR was the first game they ever played in an arcade. They weren’t tall enough to reach the controls for the other games but for DDR, they’d both stand in the opposite corners and play together. Seto took left foot, and jumped with both feet. Noa took right foot, and jumped with both again. They’d rack up perfect scores together and because they were only children, nobody cared that they were cheating.
3. When Seto started kindergarten while Noa was still too young to go with him, Noa cried. He bawled and screamed and clung to Seto, who was quietly unemotional about it. Seto brought back homework and did it on the floor, while Noa sniffled and tried not to cry in front of their father.
4. The next morning, when Noa woke up, Seto was already gone but there was a note scrawled in childish handwriting at the foot of his bed, and another for Mokuba. Noa learnt to read deciphering the notes that Seto would leave them, trying to make his absence more bearable.
5. It got better when Noa started school as well, because then Seto could walk him to school. Noa thought he had the coolest big brother in the world, especially when Seto somehow managed to dye his hair green and look like Noa’s twin except taller. Noa dyed his hair brown the next month, got some contact lenses and then switched classes with Seto for April Fool’s Day. Nobody noticed.
6. Seto still thinks about that whenever he sees Noa crossdressed. He watches Noa’s reflection in his computer sceen, sees Noa hop around the DDR mat and pretends to be fully focused on his code when his attention is elsewhere. He wonders if Noa still remembers that, how Noa can say he is in love with Seto when Seto has loved him so true and so well all his life long that he doubts that he would be able to tell if he was in love with Noa without any lust for him. And as an asexual, he will never lust after his younger brother, or anyone else.
7. He can’t decide if it makes it somehow better that he doesn’t crave Noa in a physical sense, or worse. It seems cleaner than he doesn’t. It’s scarier to know that he can’t use the lack of physical desire as a clean division between love of the familial sort and love of the romantic sort. He wishes he’d never met Jehanna. He wishes Noa wasn’t his brother. He wishes he was adopted. He wishes he was an android.
8. He knows wishing is stupid and stops it, and returns to code. Noa still dances, reflected in his computer and underneath his black gloves, Seto’s fingers are tense and still. He can’t do this. Can’t type, can’t concentrate, can’t just block out Noa. Noa’s his brother, his blood. He’s flowing through Seto’s veins, he’s got the same too-sharp intelligence that lets him see through all of Seto’s pretences (“you’re my brother, this is wrong, you’re too young”) and goes straight for the target, eyes locked and never looking away.
9. Noa’s eyes are blue. Seto’s eyes also. Mokuba’s too. Blue eyes are a Kaiba trait, just like intelligence and stubbornness. Noa’s eyes are darker than Seto’s, and deeper too. Seto’s eyes are blazing blue, intense and cold, like he’d want to slice you apart with them - Noa’s eyes have a warmth that Seto’s eyes will always lack. The blue of a comforter or a fleece blanket, instead of the blue of a circuit sparking with too much current.
10. Noa’s eyes meet Seto’s, and his reflection stares at Seto boldly. Challenge-question-plea, and Seto cannot close his eyes or look away.
11. When they kiss, it’s best described as short. Seto doesn’t know what to do, because he’s never kissed anyone before or wanted to. Noa has a few ideas because he’s researched it, but he wants to break the kiss before Seto does. Seto blinks, but doesn’t protest, and reaches up to trace over Noa’s lips with a still-gloved hand. There’s no doubt in his eyes or uncertainty now; like all Kaibas, when Seto commits himself to something, he does so with all of him. Move made; consequences accepted. Checkmate predicted.
12. When they have sex, Seto still keeps his gloves on. Their first time is in their room in the science center with the door is locked and the webcam off. Defeb is spending the night with Yami, and their cellphones are turned off. Seto’s had time to research by now, and he’s made sure to get everything that they could need. Noa laughs when he sees it all lined up neatly on Seto’s bedside table, and Seto tries to lecture him on the importance of being prepared. Noa squirms against him, wraps both arms around Seto’s waist and drags him down onto Noa’s bed, and the rest of Seto’s speech is lost to Noa’s kisses.
13. Noa kisses the gloves, and licks at Seto’s palm through the thin silk gloves, asks him to take them off. Seto refuses. Noa is not Pegasus. He has never felt any unease at being touched by Noa, nor any sense of being trapped. No reflex flight-or-fight reaction, and no physical revulsion either. But there are scars on his right hand, under the glove, and he doesn’t want Noa to see either those or the binary tattoo on the inner wrist of his left hand.
14. Noa’s pouty but accepts it because he has his brother in his bed, and that’s more important than the gloves. He’ll ask about the gloves later, again and again, and eventually, he’s sure that Seto will give in. After all, Seto gave in on this, didn’t he? And Noa’s a Kaiba. Kaibas keep trying until they get what they want, all of what they want, and Noa wants all of Seto. As much of Seto as he can have, as much of Seto as Seto can give.
15. Seto wants to give Noa everything he can, both as a brother and a lover. The last of which is what’s worrying him; he is asexual, after all. This isn’t - he shouldn’t be - how can they - Noa smiles up at him, clear and uncomplicated and trusting, and Seto pushes all his uncertainties away. He loves Noa; he can give him this much at least, when it’s something that Noa wants so badly.
16. Afterwards, Noa cuddles up to him. Seto wants a shower, but he’s not sure how to suggest it. He’s noticed a pattern of Noa being more open to ideas that are conveyed along with kisses, so tries that. In the shower, it’s Noa’s turn to show Seto what he’s researched, and they end up staying there until they run out of hot water.
17. When they return to the room, they sleep on Seto’s bed. Seto curls inwards, one leg under the other, one arm under his head and the other thrown over Noa, keeping him close and safe even during the night. Noa sleeps facing Seto, face tucked into Seto’s shoulder so that he can breathe in the other’s scent, one arm over Seto’s back and the other extended upwards, fingers in Seto’s hair. He hooks a leg over Seto’s thighs and wriggles closer while Seto’s sleeping, then just watches Seto for a little until he drifts off.
18. The last time they shared a bed was when they were children and sick. They’re both caught the flu, and Mokuba was being kept away from them to make sure he didn’t fall sick as well. Back then, Seto had still been young enough to flaunt being thirty-five and half a month older than Noa as a way of exerting his authority. Saying three years just didn’t seem like enough, but no matter what he said, he couldn’t have stopped his fevered little sibling from crawling into his bed and hugging him.
19. Both their fevers had broken by the time they woke up. Neither of them are fevered now, but when they wake up, they smile in much the same way they used to, before college and whoredom and insanity and art teachers and androids entered their life. Noa smiles like everything will be okay as long as Seto’s there; Seto’s smile is like a small, secret promise to never leave. No matter how old they get, no matter how their relationship changes, Seto and Noa will remain constant factors in each other’s lives.
20. Noa turns seventeen and receives an Alienware Elite Assassin laptop for his birthday from Seto; Seto’s always shared his grown-up toys. His present for Seto, whose birthday is two weeks later, is considerably more ‘grown-up’ of a toy. Seto blushes, and Noa laughs at his small victory, because they’re both Kaibas and Kaibas are competitive.
Even when they’re in love.
