LJ Idol Week 9: Keep Calm and End This Meme

May 18, 2014 13:18

Its 7:46 in the mornin’, practically the crack of dawn and my second graders are already cuttin’ up. Actin’ a nut. Breakin’ my pencil sharpener and throwin stuff. Miss Teacher’s had enough, can’t they just sit down and shut the fuck up? I want to scream, inside I’m seething but I remember to close my eyes and focus on my breathing ( Read more... )

I've done substitute teaching and many of the classes seem like kids from hell. I did this when my Daddy was alive and his suggestion was to bring duct tape. I think I needed it.

Second through fourth grade seems to be the "sweet spot" for subs because the children are used to being students at that time, but they usually still want their teacher to think they are good, so they usually behave. Those grades and either the special ed kids or the advanced kids for any grade.

I never got the mixing milk with food thing. I know that in Louisiana, cornbread and milk is a thing, so I understood that one. The one I never understood is that students would mix the milk with the tacos that were served. They'd chop of the taco and taco meat in the tray and mix milk with it and eat it. It was already gross cafeteria food and then they did that. I don't understand.

I definitely don't understand how milk gets mixed with EVERYTHING. Also, hot sauce gets puts on EVERTHING. Sometimes, mixed with the milk too;)

Blech. Although, being I live in Lake Charles, Louisiana (southwest), Tabasco is a thing here! We didn't have it in the cafeteria, though.

Hugs
I too have had that kind of day
Of madness and cray,
Where. I dream of a beach where I can lay
Just get me through till 3:30 I pray.
Which cannot come too soon
How many days till June?

This is one of those entries that really puts your love of rhyming to good use.

"Milk" and "Yilk!" cracked me up, because you've invented a word there but it is SO clear what it means. And confetti that shouldn’t be was pure genius.

Some years (meaning, classroom mixes) are harder than others. I hope next year settles down for you.

Thanks...I definitely enjoy inventing words. I hope next year settles as well...because this year has really been something (although honestly last was my best class ever) :)
