I was so pissed when I saw this yesterday. Oprah's response makes sense, but why didn't she pay her own production company instead of having Kamala's campaign pay her team?

Also, how the fuck did Kamala's campaign raise over $1billion but they ended up $20mil in debt. What the fuck were they doing?

Money needs to be taken out of politics. The fact you even need to raise $1bill to be a viable presidential candidate is fucked up.

Is that 20 million dollars in debt legit? I have only seen Republicans bring it up so far.

I saw it in Twitter from multiple sources

what sources though?
all I see are republican run-sources with half-sentence clips of Lindy Li, and random people on twitter/facebook making claims/"jokes"/"laughing" about this claim when I look it up.

I watched Lindy Li talking about the campaign being and epic failure on fox news and she talks about how much the campaign raised said that it was a $1B debt and then corrected herself with the actual number of $1B20M raised.

She seemed to say that debt is to everyone who donated to the Harris campaign and that Lindy Li herself felt bad because she truly believed they would win that's why she got so many people, especially people close to her to donate.

I think what Oprah said makes sense.

Related: i am very curious how the campaign spent 1 billion dollars. I know it is Biden + Harris who spent that money, so it was't in just 100 days. But it must have been in about 6 month or so...

I have some experience with running a political campaign. Spending 1 Billion dollars in less than half a year seems unreal.

I am guessing ad buys and cost of travel and rallies and ground game. Idk what campaign staff goes for these days but employee compensation are typically the most costly part of doing business, rent/mortgage aside where applicable, so I assume that ate up a lot of their budget. There was no way they were going to get away with stiffing local business and not using union labor like Dump so that likewise probably raised costs.

Yeah, but a billion ( one thousand million)?

I do hope the campaign funneled money to small businesses in battle ground states, and not just into Washington, DC though...

I don't know that it accounts for the whole number, but I'd imagine that a lot of spending on Biden was the type of sunk cost you can't simply transfer so would have to be spent out again on Kamala

And that town hall didn’t do her any favors-in fact, it might have backfired. It felt cringeworthy, especially with celebrities asking the questions. The Democrats need to seriously rethink why using wealthy celebrities to ask shallow, forced questions isn’t resonating with people. Instead of connecting, it came off as out of touch, highlighting a disconnect from the issues that matter to the average person.

they need to embrace plain speech and straight forward talk. talk to people on their level, about the issues that are important to them. that's a huge reason why bernie and, yes, trump connect with people. dems need effective communicators, not speech givers.

the only person I had any interest in listening to was Peter Buttigieg when he went on F news and calmly refuted every crazy talking point they threw at him. celebrities were just there to promote themselves and virtue signal they are "good"

When I mentioned that Trump seemed better at connecting with people during the debate, the backlash was intense. People here commented insulted my English, calling it “third grade” (I’m not American), and others said my comments were “weird.” The nastiness was unreal. It really opened my eyes to the fact that there are truly awful people on both sides of the political spectrum.

That seems like a lot of money for what it was paying for, but also that's the kind of thing that campaign funds are meant to pay for. Do people think donations only go to media ads and volunteer pizza parties? (And Trump's legal fees on the Republicans side.)
