And that town hall didn’t do her any favors-in fact, it might have backfired. It felt cringeworthy, especially with celebrities asking the questions. The Democrats need to seriously rethink why using wealthy celebrities to ask shallow, forced questions isn’t resonating with people. Instead of connecting, it came off as out of touch, highlighting a disconnect from the issues that matter to the average person.

they need to embrace plain speech and straight forward talk. talk to people on their level, about the issues that are important to them. that's a huge reason why bernie and, yes, trump connect with people. dems need effective communicators, not speech givers.

the only person I had any interest in listening to was Peter Buttigieg when he went on F news and calmly refuted every crazy talking point they threw at him. celebrities were just there to promote themselves and virtue signal they are "good"

When I mentioned that Trump seemed better at connecting with people during the debate, the backlash was intense. People here commented insulted my English, calling it “third grade” (I’m not American), and others said my comments were “weird.” The nastiness was unreal. It really opened my eyes to the fact that there are truly awful people on both sides of the political spectrum.

I'm a Trump-hating Aussie, so I'm not the demographic for either campaigns, but I think Trump was successful in talking to hate. He's an inarticulate clown otherwise. (I feel like I'm talking to the choir, but I wanted to call him a clown.)

oh, trump absolutely scratches that mindless hatred in his base, but his inarticulateness, i think, a big part of just how quickly he was embraced and elevated to the level he's been. your ever heard a couple of dumbasses vibe on their racist shit? he talks just like them, same nonsensical foolishness, that's why they feel like trump is "of the people" even though the man is textbook elite. it's not just what he says, it's the way he says it that makes hime insanely accessible, so to speak.

that's why i used bernie as the other example. unlike trump, he is not a clown, but he knows how to talk about complex and important issues in a way that is accessible to people and resonantes with their lived experiences. we should lean into this approach a lot more, imo.

Thanks for the reply! I'm not really familiar with Bernie tbh but I now get why some people speak positively about him. You'd think one of the key things as a politician, especially one running for such a big position, would be to learn how to break down complex issues and strategies etc. into plain English.

You're right about Trump. He speaks the way his demographic speaks, and it's clear that that really blinded them to where his loyalty/motivations truly lie. (I try not to listen to him speak because he's such an idiot.)

Trump's dumb-it-down cadence is important, he only feeds them exactly what they can digest: About 5 or 6 syllables. Then he pauses for dramatic body language to cue them on how to feel if they didn't fully understand. Then he repeats.

"They're dying, Russians and Ukrainians. I want them to stop dying. And I'll have that done-I'll have that done in 24 hours."
