I tried to submit this yesterday - my first attempt at making a post! I'm sure I did it wrong 😭

Anyway I thought this was interesting since the scene where he tries to choke out Catwoman in the movie is pretty brutal. So maybe he realized he had a problem with it afterwards and didn’t want to do it again on the show, or

… he wanted more money than they were willing to pay him and now that the show is a hit he’s bitter about turning it down lol.

Either way idk why he’s revealing this now. He had a valid excuse for not doing the show since Severance was filming at the same time.

Seems like everything he's saying is the exact opposite of reality.

I think The Batman showed the violence a lot more than The Penguin has so far. At least regarding his character...

I mean, I respect it if he felt that way afterwards and didn't want to revisit it but after watching both the movie and the show it feels a little weird. I did like what Mark Strong did with the character and Carmine is dead anyway so, yeah whatever.

All of the violence his (if he had signed back on) character commits against women in The Penguin is off-screen. I honestly blocked out The Batman so I can't speak to the movie anymore.

In The Batman we actually see him trying to strangle women. The show just implies it/shows it after the fact.

I have to say that I am loving The Penguin even though I hated The Batman and I think a lot of that has to do with how they are choosing to depict their female characters. In The Batman, Selina Kyle felt like a mysterious hot girl with no character development. Whereas, in The Penguin, even during the first few episodes when we didn't know any real backstory on Sofia, the character felt a lot more nuanced. Violence, especially in comic book movies/tv shows, is par for the course, but it needs to be used in a way where it is important to the story and I think Penguin does a better job with it.
